Warhawk Men Open Home Schedule with a Victory over Luther

The UW-Whitewater men's swimming and diving team improved to 2-0 after it defeated Luther College, 150-75, on Homecoming weekend in the Williams Center Pool.

The Warhawks won every event, taking the top three spots three times and the top two nine times.

The meet started with UW-W going 1-2 in the 200 medley relay with the team of Dan Bielski (Chanhassen, MN/Minnetonka ), Alex Carroll (Downers Grove, IL/Downers Grove North), Ben Wynn (Glendale/Nicolet) and Alex Gidlow (Aurora, IL/Metea Valley) taking first, 1:40.54, and the B-team going 1:44.22, just 0.19 ahead of Luther's A-team.

John Devroy (Kenosha/Bradford) won the 1000 free (10:44.61) and the trio of Josh Kanute (Geneva, IL/Marmion Academy) (1:49.65), Joe Devroy (Kenosha/Bradford) (1:50.07) and Sam Bowman (Onalaska/Onalaska) (1:52.97) went 1-2-3 in the 200 free. Gidlow and Ryan Stuart (Frankfort, IL/Lincolnway East) finished first and second in the 50 freestyle with times of 22.67 and 23.24, respectively.

John Devroy (Kenosha/Bradford) and Jake Shackelford (Wauwatosa/Wauwatosa East) were the top two finishers in the 400 IM as Devroy had a time of 4:21.27 with Shackelford right behind him with a time of 4:21.53.

Wynn won the 100 fly (54.49), Kanute won the 100 free (50.22), Joe Devroy (Kenosha/Bradford) won the 100 back (54.05), Devroy took the 500 free (4:59.97) and Spencer Twining (Janesville/Parker) won the 100 breaststroke (1:03.68) to finish the individual events.

The team of Wynn, Devroy, Kanute and Gidlow finished the meet with a victory in the 200 freestyle relay in a time of 1:29.67, over three seconds faster than the closest finisher.

The Warhawks will return to action when they travel to Green Bay for the Phoenix 1-2-3 to swim against UW-Green Bay and St. Cloud (MN) on Friday, November 9.
