Women Take 'Hawk Cup' in 5-1 Win Over Loras

Box Score The UW-Whitewater women's soccer team won the 'Hawk Cup' with a 5-1 victory over Loras College Wednesday at Fiskum Field in Whitewater.  This is the third installment of the 'Hawk Cup', an annual match between the Warhawks and the Duhawks, and the first time UW-W has won.  The Warhawks, ranked eighteenth in the latest D3Soccer.com top 25, remain unbeaten and improve to 11-0-3.  Loras, ranked thirteenth, falls to 12-3-1.

UW-W wasted little time, scoring their first goal in the twelfth minute when Jenna Woodson (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) found Carina Krausert (Waukesha, Wis./Catholic Memorial) for her fifth goal of the season.

With less than ten minutes left in the first half the Duhawks failed to clear a ball out of the box and Natalie Lechner (Waukesha/Catholic Memorial) took advantage by passing it to Sarah Sedlar (Racine, Wis./Racine Case) who knocked it in to give the Warhawks a 2-0 lead.

A minute and a half into the second half Krausert put the pressure on the Duhawks again and this time fired one towards the net that bounced off a Loras defender into the goal.  Krausert was credited with the goal; her sixth of the season and her second multiple goal game in a row.

The Warhawks made it 4-0 in the 60th minute when Brianna Reid (Oak Creek, Wis./Oak Creek) punched one in off of another Woodson assist.  Seven minutes later the Warhawks were up 5-0 on a Carly Pottle (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) goal off of an assist from Krausert.

Jordan Myers (Aurora, IL/Waubonsie Valley), UW-W's career shutout leader, was solid in goal.  Loras was awarded a penalty kick in the 69th minute and Myers saved it to keep the Duhawks off the scoreboard.  With less than twenty minutes left in the game Loras finally tallied a goal when the ball took an unfortunate bounce off the wet grass into the net.  Myers finished the game with four saves.

This is the first win over Loras in school history.  The Duhawks had won the previous five matches.

The Warhawks will return to the field Saturday, October 19 at noon for a conference match against UW-Superior.  UW-W has won 18 consecutive regular season conference matches dating back to September 28, 2011.
