UW-Whitewater
finished sixth in the
United States Bowling Congress Smyrna (TN) Sectional Tournament which concluded three days of play Sunday. The top four teams in the sectional join the top four teams from three other sectionals for the USBC Intercollegiate Team Championship April 19-21 in Lincoln, Nebraska.
The team competition, using the Baker format, began with 16 games Saturday morning, followed by 16 more in a second session Saturday. UW-W was in fourth place after both of those rounds. The Warhawks totaled 5,970 pins after Saturday, twelve pins ahead of Florida State, with Notre Dame behind in sixth. UW-W rolled eight games over 200 in the first session Saturday.
UW-W closed with three consecutive 200+ games in Sunday's first session, increasing their lead over Florida State to 55 pins, with Notre Dame 126 behind in sixth.
The Warhawks rolled just two 200 games (202 and 204) in the final round of sixteen Sunday, winding up 24 pins (over 64 games) behind fourth place Florida State and 123 behind Notre Dame, which placed fifth.
Pikeville College (KY) won the sectional with a pin total of 11,655. McKendreee College (IL) was second at 11, 513, followed by Wright State at 11,241, Florida State 11,151, Notre Dame 11,028, and UW-W 11,028. There were sixteen teams in the sectional. UW-Milwaukee, the only other Wisconsin team in the field, placed sixteenth with 9,282 pins.
In sectional singles competition Friday, UW-W's
Katie Zwiefelhofer (Racine/Washington Park) finished fourth in a United States Bowling Congress sectional in Smryna, Tennessee, to earn a berth in the USBC national singles competition in Lincoln, Nebraska in late May.
The Warhawks will return to Smyrna March 16-17 for the Music City Classic.

SATURDAY
UW-Whitewater is in fourth place after day one of the United States Bowling Congress Collegiate Sectional in Smyrna, Tennessee Saturday. Competition Saturday consisted of 32 games of Baker bowling. UW-W bowled eleven 200+ games on the day, including a three game streak of 206-2080-209. The Warhawks' high game of the day was 226, tied for sixteenth best this season.
Tourney play will conclude with 32 games Sunday. The top four teams from this regional, and three other regionals, will advance to the USBC women's collegiate championship April 19-21 in Lincoln, Nebraska.
FRIDAY
Katie Zwiefelhofer (Racine/Washington Park) finished fourth in a United States Bowling Congress sectional in Smryna, Tennessee, to earn a berth in the USBC national singles competition in Lincoln, Nebraska in late May. The top four finishers in four sectionals across the country advance to the national finals. Zwiefelhofer rolled six games Friday, with a high of 236 and four 200+ games for the day. She totaled 1,252 pins. Sarah Lokker was the top sectional qualifier at 1,315, followed by Addileen Pointer at 1,266 and Brandi Branka at 1,257.
Zwiefelhofer also qualified for the USBC singles tournament last year, where she earned the twelfth position and then went 1-1 in bracket play.
The UW-W team will be in action Saturday and Sunday, shooting for top four finish that would advance the team to the USBC team championship tournament April 19-21 in Lincoln, Nebraska.
