Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Records and best performances bolstered the Warhawks' fifth day of competition in the NTC Spring Games in Clermont, Florida Wednesday. UW-W led off the day with a 5-4 win over seventh ranked DePauw University, the sole winner over UW-W from earlier in the week. Junior righthander Katie Boyle (Greendale/Thomas More) had a stand out performance in the second game of the day, throwing a perfect game to lead Whitewater to a 20-0 rout of Southern Maine.

Boyle's perfect game is the fifth in UW-Whitewater school history and the first since 2004.  Mary Haugen threw UW-W's first ever perfect game back on April 28, 1983 in a victory over UW-Parkside.  Haugen threw another prefect game almost three years later against Augustana (IL).  In between Haugen's perfect games Lori Nelson threw one of her own on March 27, 1985 against Carthage.  The most recent perfect game, prior to Boyle's, occurred on April 1, 2004 when Lauren Morstad threw a five-inning no hitter against UW-Oshkosh.

DePauw Recap
In a rematch from Sunday's contest where DU had the upper hand 3-1, the Warhawks evened their record with DePauw in a 5-4 win Wednesday.

UW-W jumped out to an early lead in the game after Amanda Mertes (Des Plaines, IL/Elk Grove) led off the bottom of the first with a bunt single. Mertes stole second and touched the plate on an Emily Epifanio (Park Ridge, IL/Maine South) double to left center to make the score 1-0 after the first inning.

DePauw fired back scoring two runs in the top of the second after a leadoff homer tied the game and a few untimely errors allowed baserunners to advance into scoring position. A fielder's choice up the middle scored the second Tiger run of the inning giving DePauw a 2-1 lead after one and a half innings.

DePauw would hold the Warhawk hitters at bay in the bottom of the second and strike again in the top of the third. A leadoff double, bunt and sacrifice fly scored DU's third run of the game giving the Tigers a 3-1 advantage.

The Warhawks answered with three runs in their half of the inning. Mimi Ramirez (Chicago, IL/Trinity) singled with one out and Samie Seamon (Antioch, IL/Antioch) followed with her first homerun of the season to tie the game 3-3. Epifanio made it back-to-back-to-back hits with a single to right field. Emily Muche (Van Dyne/Winnebago Lutheran) relieved Epifanio on the base path and was able to score on a single down the right field line from Morgan Krisch (Plainfield, IL/Central) that got away from the right fielder and rolled all the way to the outfield fence. After three complete the score was 4-3 in favor of the Warhawks.

UW-W's defense stiffened in the fourth after the first two Tiger hitters reached safely and didn't allow a run in the inning.

Whitewater widened its lead in the bottom of the fourth after Kiersten Tinkoff (Lake Barrington, IL/Barrington) started the inning with a double to right center. Ramirez notched a two out double to center to record the RBI and give the Warhawks a 4-3 lead.

DU put some two-out offense together in the top of the fifth to score a run and make the game 5-4 but the Warhawks held off the DePauw offense the rest of the way to record the win.

UW-W recorded 11 hits in the game lead by two-hit performances from Ramirez, Epifanio and Krisch with all three posting doubles in the game.

Amy Christopher (Lafayette, CO/Holy Family) started the game on the mound for UW-W going three complete allowing three runs on five hits while striking out three and walking two. Bekka Houda (Lisle, IL/Lisle) came in for relief and pitched four innings of three hit ball with four strike outs and a free trip to record the win and improve to 4-1 this season.

Southern Maine Recap
Katie Boyle (Greendale/Thomas More) faced just 15 batters in the complete five inning game that was shortened by the run rule. She added three strikeouts to her first career perfect game and no hit performance. Boyle is 3-0 on the mound this season.

The Warhawk hitters provided all of the offense Boyle would need right off the bat. Amanda Mertes (Des Plaines, IL/Elk Grove), the first batter of the game led off with a bunt single. Mertes stole second, then third and came around to score after an errant throw to third to give Whitewater a 1-0 lead with the second batter of the game still in the batter's box.

Whitewater added another run to Mertes' in the top of the first for two total in the first inning while adding five more in the second, eight in the fourth and five in the top of the fifth.

The Warhawk offense totaled 25 hits in the game, the most in UW-W softball history, including six doubles which ties for the most in a game in school history. UW-W posted 16 runs batted in and 20 runs scored in the contest, just three shy of another UW-W record.

The Warhawks are 9-1 this season with two games left in Clermont, Florida. The Warhawks are scheduled to play Oberlin at 9:30 ET and Middlebury at 11:30 ET Thursday, March 29 before returning to Whitewater.
