Sondergeroth Wins Twice, UW-W Second at Augustana Meet

Lexie Sondgeroth (Rochelle, IL/Township) won two events to lead the UW-Whitewater women's track and field team to second place in the eight team field at the Augustana Spring Opener in Rock Island, Illinois Saturday.

Team scores were Augustana 200.5, UW-W 167.5, Saint Ambrose 143.5, Central College 127, Ashford 112, College of DuPage 44, Aurora 41, Judson 36, and Beloit 30.5.

Sondgeroth ruled the triple jump (35-9.25) and long jump (17-4) in gathering first place points in both for the Warhawks. 

The Warhawks added four more first place finishes.  Peaton Wantuch won the 3000 steeplechase in 12:06.70, Amanda Brom (Jefferson/Jefferson) crossed the line first in the 400 in 58.88, Lauren Strohmaier (Genoa, IL/Kingston) beat the field in the high jump with her 5-3.75, and the Warhawk 4x100 relay was timed in 48.91.

Other top finishes for the Warhawks included:  Janna Wise (Verona/Verona), second to Wantuch in the steeplechase (12:18.7); Alyssa Duncan (East Troy/East Troy), second in the 1500 (4:54.30), Beth Dreikosen (Sheboygan/North), second in the 400 behind Brom (59.4), and a second from Loryn Kressin (Greenfield/Wisconsin Lutheran) in the pole vault (10-10).  Also Stephanie Noskowiak (Sun Prairie/Sun Prairie), fourth in the 400 hurdles (1:06.96); Kelsey Jones (Janesville/Parker), fourth in the 200 (26.31); Jill Hernke (Palmyra/Kettle Moraine), third in the hammer throw (137-9); and Taryn Falligant (Edgerton/Edgerton), tied for fourth in the pole vault (8-9.75).  Shelby Mahr (Boyd/Stanley-Boyd) contributed points in two events, earning third place in the shot put (40-7.75) and fourth in the discus (127-11). 

UW-W will host the Rex Foster Open April 6, beginning at 2:00.  Foster Track is located west of Perkins Stadium on the north end of campus.
