Warhawks Take Two More in Clermont

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Warhawk softball team improved to 4-0 this season with two Saturday wins in Clermont, Florida. UW-W came from behind to top Williams College 7-6 in the first game and defeated Middlebury 5-4 in game two.

Williams Recap
Williams posted four runs on four hits in the top of the first but that didn't stifle Whitewater's spirit in the first game. Amanda Mertes (Des Plaines, IL/Elk Grove) put UW-W on the board in the bottom of the first leading off with a single and scoring after a stolen base and two passed balls.

A double for WC scored another run stretching their lead back to four, 5-1. Again the Warhawks would come back with a run. Sarah Fisher (Greenfield/Greenfield) walked, stole second and scored on a Joanne Jablonski (Palatine, IL/Palatine) single up the middle to make the score 5-2 in favor of Williams.

A two run third inning brought the Warhawks to within one. Mertes led off with a single, stole second and slid into home safely on a single up the middle from Mimi Ramirez (Chicago, IL/Trinity). Ramirez would score the second run after advancing to second on the throw home, reaching third on a ground ball and crossing the plate on a wild pitch. The score after three complete, 5-4.

Both teams had chances but left all runners on base until the top of the sixth. Williams put up their sixth run of the game off of two doubles. But the Warhawks refused to fold the their half of the inning. Emily Epifanio (Park Ridge, IL/Maine South) led off with a single and was relieved on the bases by pinch runner Darcy Foreman (Niles, IL/North). A ground ball moved Foreman to second and she was able to score on a single to left field by Shauna Binsfeld (Cedarburg/Grafton). Jablonski gave UW-W their first lead of the game on a two run homerun down the left field line. Whitewater held Williams in the top of the seventh to take the game 7-6.

Mertes finished the game 3x3 from the plate with two runs scored and three stolen bases. Jablonski went 2x3 offensively with the homerun and three RBI's.

Freshman Bekka Houda (Lisle, IL/Lisle) picked up her second win of the season on the mound for Whitewater. The right-hander went the distance allowing nine hits while striking out nine.

Middlebury Recap
UW-W capitalized on some untimely errors from Middlebury in the first inning to take an early 3-0 lead just half an inning into the game. The three runs came off of no hits but were aided by four errors and two walks.

Two more runs in the top of the second gave Whitewater all the offense it would need leading to a 5-4 rout of Middlebury in the second game of the day. Samie Seamon (Antioch, IL/Antioch) led off the inning with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Mertes. A groundout allowed Seamon to reach third and she scored on an RBI single from Morgan Krisch (Plainfield, IL/Central). Emily Epifanio (Park Ridge, IL/Maine South) followed with another single moving Krisch to third. A third consecutive single, this time an infield single from Laura Eichenold (Elmwood Park, IL/Trinity), brought Krisch in to score the second run of the inning bringing the score to 5-2.

Middlebury would put some pressure on the Warhawks scoring a run in the bottom of the third and sixth but Whitewater held off the Middlebury offense to win 5-4.

Seamon led the Warhawks at the plate going 2x3 with a double and run scored. Epifanio also posted a two hit game going 2x4 from the batter's box.

Junior hurler Katie Boyle (Greendale/Thomas More) recorded her first win of the season. Boyle went the distance on the mound allowing six hits while striking out five and not issuing a walk.
