Sondgeroth, Demos Top Strong Field in Warhawk Classic

Shelby Demos (Janesville/Parker) and Lexie Sondgeroth (Rochelle, IL/Township) earned first place points to lead the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater to third place in a six team field at the Warhawk Classic at the Kachel Fieldhouse in Whitewater Saturday afternoon.

Team scores were:  UW-Oshkosh 221, North Central College 122.5, UW-Whitewater 94, University of Chicago 74.5, Saint Norbert College 61, and Loras College 35.  Oshkosh is ranked second among NCAA III teams in dual meet strength according to the United States Track and Cross Country Coaches Association poll, North Central is seventh and Whitewater eighth.

Demos accounted for twenty of UW-Whitewater's points, winning the high jump (5-7.75) and 60 meter hurdles (9.35).  Sondgeroth won the long jump (17-9).

Two Warhawks placed in a pair of events.  Amy Miskowicz (Woodstock, IL/Marion Central Catholic) finished sixth in the shot put (38-9.5) and eighth in the weight throw (47-3).  Both of her marks are team season best performances.  Kelsey Jones (Janesville/Parker) took third in the 200, with her 26.79 also a team season best.  Jones added seventh place points in the long jump (16-1).

UW-W accumulated a batch of points in two events, the 400 and 3000.  Beth Dreikosen (Sheboygan/North) led Whitewater in the 400, placing second in 1:00.39, with teammate Amanda Brom (Jefferson/Jefferson) third in 1:01.11 and Simone Koenen (Burlington/Burlington) fifth in 1:01.87.  Megan Gang (Fort Atkinson/Fort Atkinson) led of trio of placewinners in the 3000, finishing sixth in 11:27.26, with Paeton Wantuch (LaPorte, IN/LaPorte) seventh in 11:28.35 and Alysha Rendflesh (South Milwaukee/South Milwaukee) eighth with a time of 11:33.40.

Whitewater received team season best performances in three more events.  Alyssa Duncan (East Troy/East Troy) was clocked in 5:20.19 for sixth place in the mile; Jill Hernke (Palmyra/Kettle Moraine) went 33-0.25 in the triple jump for eighth place; and the 4x400 relay earned second place with a time of 4:09.68.  The relay group included Stephanie Noskowiak (Sun Prairie/Sun Prairie), Simone Koenen (Burlington/Burlington), Brom, and Dreikosen.

Team points also came from Ryanne Bell (Boscobel/Boscobel), seventh in the pole vault (10-2.5); Lauren Strohmaier (Genoa, IL/Kingston), second in the high jump behind Demos (5-3.75); and Kristen Heitsman (Janesville/Parker), third in the 60 meters (8.15).

The UW-W women will join the Warhawk men's team to host the Warhawk Quadrangular Friday, February 10 at 4:00 on the Converse Track in Kachel Fieldhouse.
