Pole Vault and Hurdles Place Four

Lexie Sondgeroth (Rochelle, IL/Township) and Shelby Demos (Janesville/Parker) both won two events to highlight UW-Whitewater's second place finish in a quadrangular meet in Kachel Fieldhouse in Whitewater Friday.

Team scores were UW-Oshkosh 210, UW-Whitewater 145, UW-La Crosse 121, and UW-Stevens Point 104.

Sondgeroth accounted for twenty points with her wins in the long jump (17-4.5) and 200 (26.00), and her point total was matched by Demos, who won the high jump (5-6) and 60 hurdles (9.17).  Demos' time in the hurdles is a school and fieldhouse record along with a provisional qualifying mark for the NCAA III indoor championship. 

Alyssa Duncan (East Troy/East Troy) also won an event for UW-W, crossing the line first in the 3000 in 10:33.13.  Janna Wise (Verona/Verona) finished eighth (10:48.31).

Other Warhawks contributed in those four events.  Kelsey Jones (Janesville/Parker) and JoLyn Owen (Middleton/Middleton), in fact, added points in two of the events.   Jones took third in the long jump (17-0) and seventh in the 200 (26.91), and Owen tied for third in the high jump (5-2.25) and finished fifth in the 60 hurdles (9.94).  Lauren Strohmaier (Genoa, IL/Kingston) tied with Owen for third in the high jump; Amber Athey (Adams/Adams-Friendship) (10.46) and Lacy Beck (Hebron, IL/Alden-Hebron) (10.53) were sixth and seventh in  the hurdles; and Beth Dreikosen (Sheboygan/North) finished second (26.54) to Sondgeroth in the 200. 

Dreikosen chipped in with points in a second event, placing fifth in the 400 in 1:00.31.  Jill Hernke (Palmyra/Kettle Moraine) picked up points in two events, with a seventh place in the triple jump (32-1) and eighth place in the weight throw (45-8).

UW-W picked up points from four women in the pole vault.  Loryn Kressin (Greenfield/Wisconsin Lutheran) broke a school record and came in second (11-3.75), Ryanne Bell (Boscobel/Boscobel) placed fourth (10-4), and Taryn Falligant (Edgerton/Edgerton) (8-10.25) edged Brooke Marriott (Moline, IL/Alleman Catholic) (8-10.25) on jumps to finish seventh.

Other points came from Megan Gang (Fort Atkinson/Fort Atkinson) (third, 20:01.92) and Alysha Rendflesh (South Milwaukee/South Milwaukee) (fourth, 20:39.78) in the 5000; Paeton Wantuch (LaPorte, IN/LaPorte) (fourth, 5:38.24) in the mile; and Simone Koenen (Burlington/Burlington) (eighth, 1:01.16) behind Dreikosen in the 400.  Also, Kristen Heitsman (Janesville/Parker) (fifth, 8.19) in the 60; Amanda Brom (Jefferson/Jefferson) (second, 2:20.71) in the 800; and Shelby Mahr (Boyd/Stanley-Boyd) (fourth, 39-11.5) and Amy Miskowicz (Woodstock, IL/Marion Central Catholic) (eighth, 38-7) in the shot put.

UW-W will take a week off of competition in preparation for the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Championship, February 24-25 at UW-Stout in Menomonie.
