UW-W Sinks Luther

The UW-Whitewater men's swimming and diving team won 11 of 12 events en route to a 143-77 victory over Luther College Saturday in Decorah, Iowa.  Seven of the men's eleven wins were season bests.

The 400 yard medley relay team set the tone taking first and setting a season best with a time of 3:40.90.  The foursome of Joe Devroy (Kenosha/Bradford), Marcus Genrich (Janesville/Parker), Jasen Johnson (New Berlin/New Berlin), and Ben Wynn (Glendale/Nicolet) topped Luther by almost three seconds.

Joe Devroy (Kenosha/Bradford) also set two more season bests in two more wins in the 200 yard freestyle and the 100 yard backstroke.  Devroy's time in the 200 free was 1:49.88 and his time in the 100 back was 55:15.

Genrich won two more events as well, taking home first in the 200 yard individual medley in a season best time of 2:02.45, and earning the top spot in the 100 yard breaststroke in a season best time of 1:02.88.

Another repeat winner, Jasen Johnson (New Berlin/New Berlin), not only was a part of the 400 yard medley relay, he also took first in the 100 yard butterfly in 55.47 seconds.

The anchor of the 400 yard medley relay, Benjamin Wynn, also anchored the first place 400 yard freestyle relay team that finished in 3:20.52, another season best for the Warhawks.  Ray Polgar (Port Washington/Port Washington), Ryan Stuart (Frankfort, IL/Lincolnway East) and John Devroy (Kenosha/Bradford) are the other three members of the relay.

Stuart won two more times, once in the 1000 yard freestyle (10:38.96), and once in the 500 yard freestyle (5:04.86).

Landon Joiner (Hinsdale, IL /South) swam a season best 22.41 in the 50 yard freestyle to claim the top spot, and Keefer Kuhl (Kenosha/Bradford) won the one meter diving event with 379.45 points.

The Warhawks will return to the pool on November 10 when they travel to Appleton, Wisconsin to compete against Lawrence University in a dual meet beginning at 1:00 pm. The Warhawks will compete at home on January 25 against UW-Eau Claire at 1:00.
