Bowlers Finish Seventh at Kutztown

Day Three, Sunday
The UW-Whitewater women's bowling team, ranked eighteenth in the National Tenpin Coaches Association poll, finished seventh in the Kutztown Invitational in Kutztown, Pennsylvania after going 2-1 in the best four of seven Baker matches held Sunday.

The Warhawks started the day with a 4-1 win over eleventh ranked Stephen F. Austin University. UW-W posted game scores of 187-145, 229-214, 189-193, 185-184 and 215-212 in the matchup. The win faced Whitewater against number twelve Delaware State where the Warhawks lost 4-2. Second match game scores were 174-195, 247-174, 147-210, 145-181, 205-201 and 179-205. The 247 mark ties a Friday Baker score for the fifth highest Baker game score by the team this season. UW-W was matched up win Stephen F. Austin once again in the seventh place set of Baker games. Similar to the first matchup with SFA earlier in the day, the Warhawks defeated Stephen F. Austin 4-1 with game scores of 187-146, 174-175, 210-200, 216-166, and 215-148.

Maryland-Eastern Shore defeated Fairleigh Dickinson University for the invitational title. Sacred Heart topped Vanderbilt in the battle for third place and Valparaiso edged Delaware State for fifth.

The Warhawks have finished in the top ten in every tournament/invitational this season.

UW-W will compete in a conference invitational, USBC affiliation, Saturday-Sunday, February 4-5 in Madison, Wisconsin.

Day Two, Saturday
The Warhawk women's bowling team, ranked eighteenth in the National Tenpin Coaches Association poll, holds eighth place out of 28 teams after two full days of competition in the Kutztown Invitational in Kutztown, Pennsylvania. Places are based on total pinfall. UW-W went 6-0 the first day of competition and 2-4 on day two but no loss recorded was more than 35 pins.

Whitewater opened day two with a close 957-937 loss to Sacred Heart, ranked third in the NTCA. The Warhawks' best individual game score was a 206. The Warhawks fell to second ranked, and invite leader, Fairleigh Dickinson 948-913 in the second match of the day with the team high of 206. Despite an individual game of 242 in the third match, UW-W lost to #13 Norfolk State 926-909. Whitewater picked up its first win of the day against #17 St. Peter's College (NJ), 882-803. Long Island upset Whitewater by just four pins in the fifth match, 920-916. The Warhawks' game high was 212. UW-W finished out the second day of competition with an 894-822 win over St. Francis University.

The Warhawks totaled 5451 pins in the second day of competition that consisted of team matches. UW-W's overall total pinfall is 10,094 after two days of bowling for eighth place. Farleigh Dickinson leads the way with 10,739 total pins. Maryland-Eastern Shore and Valparaiso round out the top three with 10,541 and 10,444 pins respectively.

The invite will conclude Sunday with the best four of seven Baker matches set in bracket style rounds.

Day One, Friday
UW-Whitewater, ranked eighteenth in the National Tenpin Coaches Association poll, went 6-0 Friday in the first of three days of play at the Kutztown Invitational in Kutztown, Pennsylvania.  The Warhawks are in fifth place in the twenty-eight team field, based on total pinfall.

UW-W opened play with a 774-737 win over Texas Southern University, where UW-W's high game was a 202.  In the second match Whitewater defeated #16 Monmouth University (NJ) 778-691, rolling a 212 in the fourth and final game of the match.  UW-W topped Medaille College 730-478 in the third round, with game one's 201 the match high, and beat Bethune-Cookman University 783-638, with a 212 in game three of the fourth match of the day.  The Warhawks totaled 233 in game one in the fifth round versus Howard University, then topped that with a 247 in the fourth game in an 867-727 win in the fifth match.  The 247 is tenth in the UW-W record book, and fifth best this year.  The 233 is the seventh best score of the 2011-2012 season.  UW-W closed out the day with a 711-587 win over Florida A&M University.

All competition on day one used the Baker format.

UW-Whitewater totaled 4643 pins for fifth place.  Fairleigh Dickinson University, #2 in the NTCA poll, leads with 4890, followed by top-ranked Valparaiso 4801, third-ranked Sacred Heart University 4711, and #4 Maryland-Eastern Shore at 4680. 

Saturday's competition will be traditional six team matches, with individual scoring and standings.  The tourney will wrap up Sunday with a bracketed three game tournament, with seeding determined by standings after the first two days.

Whitewater will have a tough row to hoe Saturday.  The Warhawks six matches will versus #3 Sacred Heart, #2 Fairleigh Dickinson, #13 Norfolk State4, #14 Saint Francis of Pennsylvania, #17 Saint Peter's College, and Long Island University.
