Songeroth, Demos Earn Badger Classic Titles

Junior Shelby Demos (Janesville/Parker) won the high jump and freshman Lexie Sondgeroth (Rochelle, IL/Township) won the long jump in the Badger Classic hosted by UW-Madison Saturday.  There were no team scores in the meet, the first of the 2012 season for UW-Whitewater.

Meet Results

Demos won the high jump at 5-6, and teammate Lauren Strohmaier (Genoa, IL/Kingston) placed third at 5-1.75.  Sondgeroth's winning effort in the long jump was 18-2.5, with UW-W's Jackie Bigger fourth at 14-4.5.  Sondgeroth added a third place in the 60 meter dash with her time of 8.01.

Other top finishes for UW-W included Loryn Kressin (Greenfield/Wisconsin Lutheran), sixth in the pole vault at 10-8; Amanda Brom (Jefferson/Jefferson), fourth in the 400 at 1:02.35; Alyssa Duncan (East Troy/East Troy), sixth in the mile in 5:24.06; and Kelsey Jones (Janesville/Parker), fifth in the 200, clocked in 27.05.

Because this was the first meet of the year, an open meet with no scores, and UW-W's second semester classes have not started, a limited squad took part in the meet.

UW-W will open the home portion of the 2012 schedule Saturday, January 21 at 10:00 with the Rocky Rococo Invitational on the Converse Track in Kachel Fieldhouse at UW-W.
