Even though there were five goals scored in the match, defense dominated the first half and the teams almost went into intermission scoreless. Near the 41:00 mark UW-W's
Madeline Lardner (Lockport, IL/Lockport Township) got off a shot that was saved by Michelle Vonachen. Just 34 seconds later
Jessica Allemang (Wauwatosa/West) took a corner kick for Whitewater, and after a scramble in close to the goal
Riley Kirchoff (Pewaukee/Pewaukee) scored for the Warhawks at 42:04, her second tally of the season.
Early in the second half Loras knotted the score when Jessica Kern's goal at 49:03 followed two Loras shots as they applied the pressure.
Loras took the lead when corner kick set up the Duhawk offense in deep. A shot by Kate Young was saved by
Jordan Myers (Aurora, IL/Waubonsie Valley), but the Duhawks kept the pressure on and tied the game at 55:57 on a goal by Lisa Waltz, assisted by Ali Schmitt.
A corner kick played a key role in Whitewater's second goal as well. Allemang, again, booted the ball in front of the net where
Emily Gerber (DeForest/DeForest) converted the kick into a goal at 72:33 for a 2-1 Whitewater lead. Gerber's score ups her career goal total to 43 and points total to 99, both second all-time at UW-W. Wendy Scott (1999-2002), with 45 goals and 103 points, is the only player in front of Gerber, the two-time Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year.
Loras notched the game winner at 83:45. Tonya Lohmeyer, assisted by Young, scored after Jessica Kern's shot was turned aside by Myers.
Loras out-shot Whitewater 24-10, with Myers (1-1) credited with 8 saves. With corner kicks playing a role in the scoring, Loras took 11 to Whitewater's 4.
UW-W is 1-1 this season and Loras is 2-1.
Whitewater's next game will also be at home, with North Park College visiting Fiskum Field for a 7:00 start. Fiskum Field is on the north end of the UW-W campus, west of Perkins Stadium and northwest of Williams Center/Kachel Fieldhouse. Parking is adjacent to the field.
