Duhawks Defeat Warhawks in Inaugural Hawk Cup

Box Score

UW-Whitewater (0-3-0) couldn't survive an early two goal lead losing 4-2 to Loras (2-1-0) Wednesday at Fiskum Field in Whitewater in the inaugural Hawk Cup.  The "Hawk Cup" is a new tradition between the two schools that will take place each season.  The winner receives the traveling trophy until the following year's match.

The scoring started early with UW-W notching a goal in the sixth minute when Josh Chamberlain (De Pere/De Pere) drilled one into the back of the net unassisted.  Several minutes later the Warhawks were awarded a penalty kick after a foul in the box and Logan Fye (Rockford, IL/Winnebago) buried it for his second goal of the year.

Loras didn't take long to strike back scoring their first goal in the seventeenth minute when senior midfielder Camilo Garces chipped one into the box that Brad Joiner deflected in.  The Duhawks knotted the score with just over two minutes to go in the half when Kevin Cavers scored his first goal of the game.

Cavers gave the visitors the advantage fourteen minutes into the second half with his second goal of the game and the Duhawks slammed the door on the Warhawks with another goal in the 74th minute.

The game was littered with fouls, 20 for Loras and 10 for UW-W, and six yellow cards were issued, four to the Duhawks.

Loras outshot UW-W 16-7, including 10-3 in the first half.

UW-W will look to earn their first victory this season when they return to the field on September 11.  The Warhawks will travel to Dubuque, Iowa to take on the University of Dubuque.
