The UW-Whitewater women's volleyball team, ranked twenty-second in the most recent American Volleyball Coaches Association top 25 poll, put on an offensive show in a 3-1 (25-17, 24-26, 25-16, 25-17) win over UW-La Crosse Wednesday night in Kris Russell Volleyball Arena in Williams Center in Whitewater, Wisconsin.

The Warhawks used a 53-36 kill advantage committing just 17 errors, ten less than UW-L, to seal the win. The third set displayed the biggest discrepancy with UW-W pounding down 16 kills in 35 attempts to La Crosse's five kills in 33 attempts. As a team Whitewater posted a .277 hitting percentage to the Eagles' .072.
Two Warhawk hitters posted double digit kills in the match including
Sofia Sanchez (Janesville/Craig) with a match high 17, a mark that ties the season high which she has matched two other times this season. Teammate Alivia Homan also recorded her season high of 13 against the Eagles.
Ariel Johnston (Rockford, IL/Guilford) led UW-W defensively at the net with three assist blocks. In the backcourt,
Kelli Trautmann (Seymour/Little Chute) had a match high 17 digs and added three service aces.
Alyssa Bauer (Naperville, IL/Central) was the only other Warhawk to post double digit digs with ten. Setter
Heidi Buss (Cedarburg/Cedarburg) dished out 35 assists and added three aces from the service line in the contest.
The win is the third straight Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory for Whitewater, now 3-1 in conference play. The Warhawks improve to 11-4 overall. UW-La Crosse falls to 4-8 this season and 1-2 against WIAC opponents.
UW-W will travel to Bloomington, Illinois Friday and Saturday, September 30-October 1 to compete in the Illinois Wesleyan Tournament. The Warhawks will face Robert Morris-Peoria and Culver-Stockton College (MO) Friday at 5:15 and 7:30 respectively. Whitewater will continue play Saturday with matches at 12:15 and 2:30 against North Central College and host Illinois Wesleyan.
