Box Score
The Warhawk women (2-3) drew first blood but the Titans scored three unanswered goals to go on to defeat UW-W 3-1 Thursday in Bloomington. The Titans (4-1) are ranked eleventh in the most recent D3soccer.com Top 25 poll.
Emily Gerber (DeForest/DeForest), UW-W's leading scorer and career points and goals scored leader, notched her fifth goal of the year and the first of the game in the nineteenth minute. The goal was scored on the Hawks' third shot of the game, all by Gerber.
Illinois Wesleyan's Emily Hinchman scored an unassisted equalizer in the 26th minute when she dribbled through several defenders and blasted a ball into the upper left corner of the goal.
The Warhawks did not get another shot off until the 35th minute when a Riley Krichoff shot was denied by IWU goalkeeper Zoie Samaan. The first half ended in a tie, 1-1.
IWU turned up the heat offensively in the second half totaling 14 shots to the Warhawks' three. The go-ahead goal was scored by Kate Dunaway just under ten minutes into the second half. The Titans added an insurance goal in the 70th minute when Hinchman scored again, this time off of a cross from Hannah Ketterling.
Warhawk net minder
Jordan Myers (Aurora, IL/Waubonsie Valley) was put to work playing all ninety minutes and making ten saves, two more than her previous season high of eight in a 3-2 loss to Loras.
The Titans seem to have the Warhawks' number, defeating them all four times they have played since 2001.
UW-W will compete again on Saturday, September 17 when they travel to UW-La Crosse to open up Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play in a match beginning at 2:00 pm. UW-W is coming off of their first ever WIAC championship in 2010.
