Demos, Duncan and Luebke Lead Warhawks at Augustana Invite

Despite rain and cold temperatures Shelby Demos (Janesville/Parker) automatically qualified for the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III outdoor national championship in the high jump while Alyssa Duncan (East Troy/East Troy) and Jessa Luebke (Tomah/Tomah) each won their respective events at the Augustana Invitational in Rock Island, Illinois on Friday and Saturday. Weather conditions did not permit the meet to finish in its entirety, but with the completed and scored events the team finished in fourth out of ten teams with 85.5 points.  The top three team were: Monmouth College (152), Augustana (122), and Loras College (89).

Heptathalon results

Demos tied the automatic qualifying mark of 5 feet and 7.25 inches and won the high jump on Saturday.  Demos finished ninth at the NCAA DIII championship in 2010.

Duncan took first in the 800 meter run crossing the finish line in a time of 2:29.46 while Luebke chipped in ten team points with a first place finish in the hammer throw with a distance of 163 feet and 10 inches.

Also chipping in points for the team were: Madeline Roznos (Reedsburg/Reedsburg) who finished second in the 3000 meter steeplechase in a time of 11:13.79, Jill Hernke (Palmyra/Kettle Moraine) who finished second in the discus with a distance of 112 feet and six inches, Angela Behrendt (Appleton/Appleton East) who finished third in the 10000 meter run in a time of 39:36.91, Loryn Kressin (Greenfield/Wisconsin Lutheran) who finished third in the pole vault with a height of 10 feet and 2.5 inches, Sara Poppe (Germantown/Kettle Moraine Lutheran) who finished third in the long jump with a distance of 17 feet and 5.25 inches, Amber Athey (Adams/Adams-Friendship) who finished sixth in the 400 meter hurdles in a time of 1:16.99, and Kristen Heitsman (Janesville/Parker) who finished seventh in the 100 meter dash in a time of 13.10 seconds.  The 4x100 meter relay team also tallied points for the team crossing the finish line in a time of 49.86 seconds, good for third place.

The Warhawks recorded seven season bests at the meet.

JoLyn Owen (Middleton/Middleton) was unable to complete all events in the heptathlon Saturday after sitting in first place with half of the competition completed Friday night. Owen finished in first in the 100 meter hurdles, high jump and shot put, while finishing third in the 200 meter dash on Friday. 

The Warhawks will compete again on April 23 at the Huskie Invite in DeKalb, Illinois on the campus of Northern Illinois University.  UW-Whitewater will be home again on April 30 for the UW-Whitewater Drake Alternative at Rex Foster Track.
