Demos Second in High Jump at NCAA III Championship

Shelby Demos (Janesville/Parker) became the first UW-W woman to earn all-America honors in the high jump with her second place finish, helping Whitewater tie for twenty-fourth place in the National Collegiate Athletic Association Divison III Women's Indoor Track and Field Championship hosted by Capital University in Columbus, Ohio Friday-Saturday, March 11-12.

Demos went 5-7.75 in the high jump, the same height attained by eventual winner Elizabeth Evans of Rose Hulman Institute of Technology.  Demos and Evans moved the bar up together, then when they reached 5-7.75, Evans cleared the height on her first try and Demos on her third.  When both failed to clear the next height, Evans won the event based on fewer misses.

Demos' second place finish is the highest by a Warhawk woman in a NCAA III indoor championship since Jessica Kohlman won the weight throw in 2001.

Combined with Jessa Luebke (Tomah/Tomah)'s eighth place finish, also an all-American, UW-W totaled nine points to tie for twenty-fourth place.  UW-Oshkosh won the team title with 46.5 points.
