Shelby Demos (Janesville/Parker) and
Sara Poppe (Germantown/Kettle Moraine Lutheran) were crowned champions Saturday at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship hosted by UW-Stout in Menomonie.

Team scores were: UW-Oshkosh 160, UW-Eau Claire 130.5, UW-La Crosse 108.5, UW-Whitewater 99, UW-River Falls 63, UW-Stevens Point 61, UW-Platteville 46, UW-Stout 30, and UW-Superior 4.
Poppe led the field in the long jump with her 17-3.25 mark. She came close to winning twice, going 36-8.25 in the triple jump for second place. Demos duplicated Poppe's point total, winning the high jump with a height of 5-6, and finishing second in the 55 hurdles, where her time of 8.35 is a team season best, NCAA III provisional qualifying mark --- and it broke her own school record which was 8.44.
Jolyn Owen (Middleton/Middleton), who won the pentathlon with a school record point total Friday, became the only Warhawk to score in three events. Saturday she added second place behind Demos in the high jump at 5-4.25, and finishing seventh in the long jump with a mark of 16.5.25.
Madeline Roznos (Reedsburg/Reedsburg) and
Kristen Heitsman (Janesville/Parker) also contributed points in two events for UW-W. Roznos crossed the line fourth in the 5000 with a team season best time of 18:26.81, and added another team season best performance in the 3000, where she finished fifth at 10:42.07. Heitsman went 7.49 in the 55, another team season best, finishing fifth, and she was a member of the 4x200 relay team that was sixth with a time of 1:50.3.
Other contributors to UW-W's team point total included
Lauren Strohmaier (Genoa, IL/Kingston), third in the high jump 5-2.25 -- giving the Warhawks a 1-2-3 sweep of the event. This was the 2nd 1-2-3 sweep in indoor conference history, with UW-Oshkosh sweeping in 1992.
Jessa Luebke (Tomah/Tomah) threw the weight 54-5 to place fourth and
Megan Blake (Waukesha/Waukesha South) was eighth in the same event with a mark of 51-4.25. Fifth place finishes were turned in by
Stephanie Cowling (Neenah/Neenah) in the long jump, 16-8.5, and
Angela Behrendt (Appleton/Appleton East) in the 5000, 18:28.29.
Melanie Pilon (Waukesha/South) pole vaulted 10-8.25 for sixth place. The Warhawk distance medley relay was clocked in 12:58.63, a team season best time, for sixth, and the 4x400 relay went 4:13.28 for eighth place.
UW-W will have some athletes competing in a last chance meet at UW-Stevens Point March 5, and the indoor season will wrap up with the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III Indoor Track and Field Championship at Capital University in Columbus, Ohio March 11-12.
