Tooren Guides UW-W to Seventh Win

Box Score

Christina Tooren (Hoffman Estates, IL/Hoffman Estates) scored two goals within three minutes of each other in the first half of a 3-1 victory over Augustana Tuesday in Whitewater.  The Warhawks, now 7-4-1, have won five of their last six games, including three in a row.  The Vikings fall to 6-4-1 this season.

Shots were flying in the first half, especially off the laces of the Warhawks.  UW-W recorded fifteen first half shots, seven of which came in the first 22 minutes, the same span in which the Vikings only shot once.

The Warhawks eighth shot resulted in their first goal.  The goal, scored in the 26th minute by Tooren, was assisted by Emily Gerber (DeForest/DeForest)

Tooren did it again less than three minutes later to give UW-W a 2-0 lead.  Pamela Lisowe (New Holstein/New Holstein) and Gerber both recorded assists on the goal.

Sarah Sedlar (Racine/Case) scored UW-W's third goal, her first of the season, in the 38th minute.  Gerber again notched the assist.

UW-W did not cool off after halftime, firing off three shots in the first four minutes of the half.  The Vikings countered with two shots of their own, scoring on the second.

The Warhawks shot the ball six more times in the second half but were unable to score.  It didn't matter though as Jordan Myers (Aurora, IL/Waubonsie Valley) made four second half saves to preserve the lead and the win.  Myers is 5-4-1 in the net this season and has a save percentage of .814.

Please excuse Christina Tooren (Hoffman Estates, IL/Hoffman Estates) as she shakes off the dust after sitting on the shelf for the first seven games of the season due to an injury, but in the last five games she has been on a mission.  Of the sixteen shots she has fired, nine have been on goal, and three have been for goals.  She has also recorded an assist.  She is now twelfth in the UW-W record book for career goals (19) and fourteenth in career points (46).  Tooren was UW-W's leading scorer in 2010, the year the team won their first Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title.

Emily Gerber (DeForest/DeForest) also continues her assault on the UW-W record book.  In the last week Gerber has increased her school leading record of career goals to 51 and career points to 120.  She has also moved up to third in school history in career assists with 18.

UW-W will take some time off before Gerber, Tooren, and the 'Hawks look to continue their recent tear.  The Warhawks will not play again until October 15 when they travel to UW-Stevens Point to take on their conference foe.  The game is slated for a 1:00 pm start.
