The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater defeated UW-Stevens Point 3-2 on a goal by Emily Gerber (DeForest/DeForest) with just over two minutes remaining, in Stevens Point Saturday -- the second time the Warhawks have ever won in the series that started in 1992.

UW-W had three shots on goal in the first half, one blocked by a Pointer defender and two saved by UW-SP goalie Brittany Marx, before the Warhawks broke through.  Madeline Lardner (Lockport, IL/Lockport Township) broke the scoreless deadlock with her first goal of the year at 39:45, with an assist from Gerber.  The half ended without the Pointers getting a shot on UW-W keeper Jordan Myers (Aurora, IL/Waubonsie Valley).

Whitewater's Christian Tooren made a bid to increase the lead, but her shot at 49:26 hit the crossbar.  Point's Kim Jobke got in on Myers at 52:06 but Myers made the save.  A short time later, at 55:57, Hannah Burt knotted the game with an assist from Jobke.

At 62:15 a Gerber shot was saved by Marx, and then UW-SP's Sammy Greer put the Pointers in front, 2-1, with a goal at 65:18. 

Tooren made her next shot count, netting the tying score with her fourth goal of the year (in her six games) at 65:57 with an assist from Gerber.

Whitewater's Pamela Lisowe (New Holstein/New Holstein) had a go ahead attempt blocked by a Point defender, and Myers stopped Jessica Ruch's attempt at 85:57. 

It came down to 87:41 when Gerber put in the game winner off an assist from Tooren.  It was Gerber's tenth goal of the season, and it extended her school career record total to 61 goals.  Gerber's two assists on the day upped her season total to nine, also leading UW-W, which gives her 27 assists in her career, one shy of the school record held by former teammate Becky Cera (2006-2009).

UW-W had nine shots on goal to four for UW-SP, and the Warhawks had a 13-10 shot advantage overall.  Whitewater had five corner shots to one for Point, and committed two fewer fouls (5-7).

Whitewater, 8-4-1 overall and 3-1-1 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, has won six of its last seven matches.  The Pointers are 8-6 overall and 3-4 in the WIAC.

The only time in the history of the series between the schools that UW-W did not lose was October 29, 2003, when the schools played to a 0-0 draw through two overtimes in a match played in Whitewater.

UW-W will host UW-Superior Sunday, October 16 at 12:00 at Fiskum Field.  Fiskum Field is on the north end of campus, west of Perkins Stadium and northwest of Kachel Fieldhouse/Williams Center.  Free parking is adjacent to the field.
