Kristen Heitsman (Janesville/Parker) and
Melanie Pilon (Waukesha/South) were named UW-Whitewater women's track and field Athletes of the Week after their performances in the North Central Quad meet in Naperville, Ill. Friday, January 28.
Heitsman, the track athlete of the week, was the runner-up in the 55 meters, crossing the line in 7.57 seconds. She followed it up with a second-place finish in the 200 meters, clocking a personal best time of 27.81.
In field event competition, Pilon won the pole vault with a team season-best height of 11-0.75. That was coupled with a third-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 34 feet, 5.5 inches.
UW-W returns to competition Friday, February 4 when the multi-event athletes travel to UW-Stevens Point for the Pointer Multi-Event Meet. The rest of the team is set to compete at the Warhawk Classic Saturday, February 5 in the Kachel Field House.
