The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's track and field team already has three provisional qualifiers for the NCAA III Indoor Track and Field Championship -- after the first meet. UW-W opened 2011 with the Warhawk Opener Friday night in Kachel Fieldhouse on the UW-W campus.

Senior
Sara Poppe (Germantown/Kettle Moraine Lutheran) won the long jump and the triple jump -- and met NCAA III provisional qualifying standards in both events. Poppe went 18-0 in the long jump and 36-11.5 in the triple jump. Sophomore
Shelby Demos (Janesville/Parker) won the high jump, and her height of 5-6 gave UW-W its third provisional qualifying performance.
Demos added another first place for UW-W, winning the 55 hurdles in 8.77. She ran slightly faster in the preliminaries of the event, timed in 8.75.
Jessa Luebke (Tomah/Tomah), a senior, also turned in two winning efforts, capturing the weight throw at 49-3 and the shot put with a throw of 39-2.5.
Three more Warhawks took first place in the meet.
Melanie Pilon (Waukesha/South) went 9-5.75 to win the pole vault;
Janna Wise (Verona/Verona) won the 800 in 2:33.15, and
Kelsey Jones (Janesville/Parker) crossed the line first in 1:03.79 in the 400.
The Warhawk women will host the Rocky Rococo Invitational Saturday, January 22 in the Kachel Fieldhouse. Competition will get underway at 10:00 a.m.
