Women Hand Clarke First Loss

The UW-Whitewater women's soccer team notched their first victory of the season on Sunday with a 2-0 win over previously unbeaten Clarke College.  The Warhawks got goals from Emily Gerber (DeForest/DeForest) and Christina Tooren (Hoffman Estates, IL/Hoffman Estates) in the second half while goalkeeper Jacqueline Piasecki (Elk Grove Village, IL/Conant) played stout throughout the ninety minutes.  UW-W is now 1-1-0 while the Crusaders fall to 2-1-0.

UW-W outshot Clarke 19-12 in the game with a majority of the shots coming in the scoreless first half.

UW-W only fired five shots in the second half and two found the net.  Gerber scored the first goal in the fiftieth minute on a rifle that came just outside of the penalty box.  The second goal was just how a coach draws it up.  Kayla Miller (Racine/Case) hit a cross from the right side to the far post and Tooren knocked it in with her head to give the 'Hawks a more comfortable lead.

Piasecki made five saves, including two crucial ones in the second half.

The Warhawks will travel Dubuque, Iowa on Wednesday, September 8 to take on Loras in a match beginning at 6:00 pm.  UW-W's next home contest is on September 15 when they open up conference play against UW-Oshkosh at 7:00 pm at Fiskum Field.
