Stensvaag Receives Academic Honor

Ingrid Stensvaag (Palatine, IL/Palatine) has added another honor to her trophy case.  Stensvaag earned First Team Academic All-District honors from the College Sports Information Directors of America and ESPN The Magazine.

The CoSIDA honor emphasizes academic qualifications while also including athletic accomplishments, and campus and community service.  Whitewater's CoSIDA district includes Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin and Minnesota.  The College Division includes National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III teams, NCAA II schools, and National Intercollegiate Athletic Association member institutions.  The recognition is not automatically conferred when meeting a grade or achievement standard, but is competitive on a national ballot.  As a first team all-district pick, Stensvaag will be listed along with the first team selections from seven other regions on the national ballot for Academic All-America honors.

A health and human performance major, Stensvaag has a 3.98 (out of 4.0) cumulative grade point average.  She has been on the dean's list, the UW-W Academic Achievement Award, and the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Scholastic Honor Roll.  Stensvaag earned the WIAC Judy Kruckman Scholar Athlete Award for tennis this school year as well as UW-W's Chancellor's Scholar Athlete Award.  She  is an Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar Athlete and the UW-W Female Athlete of the Year for 2009-2010.  She is an undergraduate research grant recipient, a member of the Student Optimist Club, Golden Key, Sigma Lambda Alpha, the physical education and recreation major club, and a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee.

Stensvaag went 21-11 at number two singles this year.  She also teamed with Annie Smith (Algonquin, IL/H.D. Jacobs) to go 19-9 at number two doubles, and went 4-0 with Michelle Daciolas (Roselle, IL/Lake Park) at the same flight.  She won WIAC flight two singles and doubles titles in 2008 and 2009.   Stensvaag helped UW-W win three consecutive WIAC championships, as well as three straight NCAA III championship tournament berths.  UW-W advanced to the third round, final sixteen, of the national tournament.
