UW-Whitewater, ranked nineteenth in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) poll, lost to number eight DePauw 8-1 on Tuesday morning in Hilton Head, South Carolina. The dual match loss is only the second of the season as the Warhawks are now 14-2 overall. The Warhawks only other loss was to number nine Gustavus Adolphus ten days ago. DePauw improves to 11-2 for the season.
The match was tight throughout both doubles and singles and several matches could have gone either way. Three sets were needed to decide the five and six singles flights and all other matches, both doubles and singles, were hard fought.
Annie Smith (Algonquin, IL/H.D. Jacobs) was the lone victor for UW-Whitewater as she defeated Kayla Smith in straight sets.
DePauw boasts the number three (Janelle Arita) and number twenty (Kelly Gebert) singles players in the central region according to the ITA. They also carry the number three doubles team of Smith and Greer Mackie.
