The UW-Whitewater women's soccer team lost to UW-Stevens Point, 1-0, in its first ever
Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament championship match appearance Saturday afternoon in Stevens Point, Wisconsin.

The Warhawks thwarted four Pointer shots in the first 12:01 of the match.
Emily Stocks (McFarland/McFarland) got the ball rolling for UW-W with the team's first shot at 14:55 that went wide. Another shot at 18:03, this time by
Samantha Hoerchner (Germantown/Kettle Moraine Lutheran), was also wide of the goal.
Emily Gerber (DeForest/DeForest) posted the first shot on goal for the Warhawks at 24:03 but the attempt was foiled by UW-SP goalie Liz Hunter.
Gerber found an opening at 30:10 and put a shot on goal that was saved Liz Hunter. Gerber tried another shot at 37:49 but Hunter again came up with the save.
Jessica Allemang (Wauwatosa/West) rounded out the shot opportunities for Whitewater in the first half with a shot that missed high at 43:56.
The Pointers posted four shots in the first 10:17 of the second half but the Warhawks blocked two as two others flew wide of the goal. Gerber found a seam at 58:49 but Hunter again came up with the save. The lone goal of the match came from the Pointers' Kirsti Nickels at 65:58 off a double assist.
Christina Tooren (Hoffman Estates, IL/Hoffman Estates) provided the last shot for Whitewater at 77:21 that missed wide.
The Warhawks recorded eight shots in the match including four on goal to UW-Stevens Point's 21 total and five on goal. The teams were even in the saves category with both keepers posting four. The Pointers had six corner kicks to one for UW-W, and Point had one more foul, 6-5.

Sam Neely (Oregon/Oregon) went the distance for Whitewater with four saves, with her record for the season of 6-5. Pointer goalie, Hunter notched her 13th shutout of the season and improves to 15-2-1 overall.
The Warhawks tied with Stevens Point for its first WIAC regular season title this season. UW-W will await word on a possible bid into the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III tournament, which would mark the first NCAA DIII tournament appearance in the history of Warhawk women's soccer. UW-SP received the conference's automatic bid into the NCAA DIII tournament with their fifteenth and third consecutive WIAC tournament title. The NCAA DIII tournament field will be announced Monday, November 8. NCAA regionals will be played November 11-14.
