Loras Comes Back to Defeat Warhawks

The UW-Whitewater men's soccer team scored an early goal on a penalty kick by Dan Montanye (Mukwonago/Mukwonago), but Loras answered with three goals and went on to defeat UW-W 3-2 on Saturday at Robert W. Fiskum Field in Whitewater.  The Warhawks fall to 1-1-0 this season while Loras improves 2-0.

A penalty during the fifth minute of the match awarded a penalty kick to the 'Hawks.  Montanye capitalized by burying the ball in the bottom right corner of the net to give UW-W a lead.

Loras responded later in the first half, in the 24th minute, with a goal off of a corner kick by Santiago Meija.  Meija centered the ball which was initially headed by Thomas Jennings, which led to another header by Donald St. George that found the back of the net.

Loras scored their second goal in the 68th minute and their third in the 69th minute.  The Warhawks tallied a goal in the 78th minute to come within one but a header in the waning moments sailed wide and the Warhawks were unable to tie the game.

The Warhawks outshot the Duhawks by nine (18-9) but were whistled for 11 fouls as opposed to Loras' six.

The Warhawks are off until September 10 when they travel to Bloomington, Illinois to play Illinois Wesleyan University at 7:30 pm.  The Warhawks next home game is on September 12 at 3 pm against UW-Superior.
