Twenty-Seven Earn Chancellor's Scholar-Athlete Award

Twenty-seven UW-Whitewater student-athletes earned The Chancellor Scholar-Athlete award for the 2010-11 season. This award is given to those students who are seniors, nominated by their coaches. The student-athlete must have participated in sports for three years and with a minimum GPA of 3.25 at the conclusion of the fall semester, achieved senior status in their academic program, and have at least 90 degree credits. Chancellor Richard Telfer gave each student-athlete a commemorative watch as a gift. The student-athletes that earned the award follow.

Phil Negri (Minocqua/Lakeland), Men's Basketball, earned his Bachelor's degree in finance in 2010 and is working on his Master's degree in management with a GPA of 3.92. He is a Capital One CoSIDA All-American, on the All-District second team, and a recipient of the WIAC Max Sparger Scholar Athlete Award for men's basketball. He has been on the Dean's list every semester as an undergraduate and was a member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll for four years. He was also selected to the WIAC All-Sportsmanship award in 2011. He has been a member of two WIAC conference championship teams, participated in three NCAA tournaments, and was a conference leader in 2009-10 for three-point percentage and assists. Phil has participated in Reading with the Warhawks, the campus food drive, helped with youth basketball camps and clinics and received the Russell K. Schneider Community Involvement Award. He is a member of SAAC and Beta Gamma Sigma.
 
Ashley Keclik (Hoffman Estates, IL/Fremd), Bowling, is majoring in early childhood education with a minor in coaching and has a cumulative GPA of 3.285. She made the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll and was selected to the National Tenpin Coaches Association All-Academic Team in 2009-10. She has had term honors for three semesters. Ashley won the Fright Night Invite in 2008 and was a member of the team that qualified for the USBC Collegiate Team Championship in 2009-10 and 2010-11. She has participated in Make a Difference Day, Reading with the Warhawks, helped with the Food Drive for Whitewater Food Pantry, spent time as a nursing home volunteer, and worked with the service learning project. Ashley has been a bowling camp counselor and coached Saturday morning bowling leagues. She was a volunteer co-coordinator for the early childhood conference.
 
Jackie Sailer (Redgranite, WI/Wautoma High), Bowling, has a GPA of 3.464 and is majoring in elementary education with a minor in special education and coaching. She has had term honors for four semesters and been on the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll in 2007-08, 2008-09 and 2009-10 academic years. Jaclyn was also a member of the 2009-10 NTCA All-Academic team. She has participated in Reading with the Warhawks, Polar Plunge, been a bowling camp counselor, volunteer bowling coach and worked at the Food Drive for Whitewater Food Pantry.
 
Kayci Sommer (Waukesha/Waukesha West), Bowling, has a cumulative GPA of 3.430 and is majoring in math education with a minor in coaching. She had term honors for four semesters and was on the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll for four years. Ashley was a member of the team that qualified for the USBA Collegiate Team Championship in 2009-10 and 2010-11. She has participated in Reading with the Warhawks, Make a Difference Day, America Reads and has been a bowling camp counselor. She is a member of the Student Math Association and Pi Mu Epsilon.
 
Aron Kehoe (Monroe/Monroe), Men's Cross Country/Track and Field, has a cumulative GPA of 3.457 and is majoring in special education. He is a co-recipient of the Max Sparger Men's Scholar-Athlete Award for indoor track and field in 2011, on the Dean's list, and the NCAA Division III All-Academic team in 2009 and 2010. He was the Division III Indoor National Champion in the 800m in 2010, a two-time All-American for track and field, the UW-W record holder for the 600 meter, 800 meter, 1000 meter and 4X800 meter relay, qualified eight times for national championships (six for track and field, twice for cross country) and was team captain for indoor track and field in 2011. Aaron has been a weekly volunteer catechist at St. Patrick's in Whitewater for 2010-11 and has volunteered at Whitewater Middle School.
 
Jerret Knoblock (New Hope, MN/Cooper), Men's Cross Country, is majoring in physical education and has a cumulative GPA of 3.484. He has been on the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll for three years and on the Dean's list three semesters.
 
David Schneekloth (Seymour/Seymour), Men's Cross Country/Track and Field, completed his Bachelor's degree in accounting with a 4.0 GPA and is working on his Master's degree in accounting with a GPA of 3.875. He has been on the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll and the Dean's list for four years. He earned NCAA Division III All-Academic honors in 2010. He was named WIAC All-Conference and All-Region teams in 2010 and was a national qualifier for cross country. In track and field, he was WIAC All-Conference for the indoor 5,000 meter run and WIAC All-Conference for the outdoor 10,000 meter run. David has participated in Reading with the Warhawks, the Whitewater Food Drive and the SAAC Food Drive. He is a member of Beta Alpha Psi, Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society and WICPA.
 
Jordan Truttschel (Kiel/Kiel), Men's Cross Country, is majoring in finance with an emphasis on financial planning and has a cumulative GPA of 3.505. He has been on the Dean's list five semesters, WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll four times, and has received the Academic Achievement Award. He has participated in the WIAC conference championship for four years and at the regional meet three years. Jordan has participated in Kids Night Out, Reading with the Warhawks, One World Running shoe drive and was the student-athlete coordinator for the Polar Plunge. He is a member of SAAC, Finance Association and the Fishing club.
 
Andrea Newman (Bruce/Bruce), Women's Cross Country/Track and Field, has a cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.671 and a 3.565 graduate cumulative GPA. She has received her Bachelor's degree in accounting in 2010 and is currently working on her Master's degree. She has been a member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll for four years and on the Dean's list for six semesters. She was named Most Improved Freshman on the Warhawk team in 2006 and received the Marty van Steenderen Sportswoman of the Year award for Cross Country in 2008. She was the track team captain in 2009. Andrea is a member of Beta Alpha Psi and WICPA. She has participated in Make a Difference Day and has volunteered at a local nursing home.
 
Katherine Timm (Brodhead/Brodhead), Women's Cross Country/Track and Field, has a cumulative GPA of 3.575 and is majoring in accounting and finance. She has been on the Dean's list for five semesters and the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll in 2008 and 2009. She was team captain for track and field in 2009 and earned the WIAC All-Sportsmanship award in 2008. Katherine has participated in Make a Difference Day, has been a Red Cross blood drive volunteer and helped with cross country camps. She is a member of the Institute of Management Accounts and Beta Alpha Psi.
 
Katie Wagner (Germantown/Germantown), Women's Cross Country/Track and Field, is majoring in communicative science and disorders and has a cumulative GPA of 3.5. She earned USTFCCCA All-American team honors in 2008, 2009, 2010, and has been on the Dean's list for six semesters. She has been track and field team captain for two years, cross country team captain for one year, and was voted Most Inspirational/Best Encourager by the team for three years. Katie was also the Marty van Steenderen Sportswoman of the Year for cross country and earned the WIAC All-Sportsmanship award for track in 2009. She has participated in Reading with the Warhawks, Kids Night Out and Make a Difference Day. Katie has been the program coordinator for Reading with the Warhawks and One World Running shoe drive. She has also volunteered at the Whitewater Food Pantry and JUFAC. She is a member of SAAC, NSSLHA and FCA.
 
Luke Hibner (Elmhurst, IL/York Community), Football, is majoring in occupational safety with construction and ergonomic emphases and has a cumulative GPA of 3.30. He was a member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll for three years and a part of the Warhawk football teams that won three national championships and four WIAC conference championships. He was a WIAC second team pick in 2010 and also lettered in track and field for three years. Luke has volunteered for all On-Campus Housing, installing and removing lofts in the residence halls. He is a three-year member of SAAC and a one-year member of Student Safety Organization.
 
Aaron Rusch (Hartford/Hartford), Football, has a cumulative GPA of 3.83 and is majoring in physical education with a minor in health. He has been on the Dean's list every semester, a Golden Key National Honor Society member, National Leadership and Honors Organization nominee and member of Sigma Alpha Lambda. Aaron has been a member of the football teams that won three national championships and four WIAC conference championships and is the all-time leading receiver at UW-W in yards and receptions. He was first team All-WIAC wide receiver in 2009 and 2010, second team All-WIAC wide receiver in 2008, second team All-West Region wide receiver in 2010 and third team All-West Region wide receiver in 2009. In 2010, Aaron's senior year, he was named D3 Senior Classic Preseason All-American, Allstate AFCA Good Works Team nominee, WIAC Max Sparger Football Scholar-Athlete Award winner, Gagliardi Award finalist, ESPN CoSIDA second team Academic All-American and football team captain. Aaron has participated in Make a Difference Day, Lunch Buddy Program at Lincoln Elementary School, Reading with the Warhawks, Operation Freedom at the Milwaukee County Zoo, volunteered at Indian Community School in Franklin, and helped with numerous youth football/basketball summer camps at home and here on campus. He plans on joining WEAC and WFCA.

Melanie Helgeson (St. Charles, IL/North), Golf, has a cumulative GPA of 3.365 with a major in marketing and a minor in public relations. She has had term honors for three semesters and has been on the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll in 2007-08 and 2009-10. Melanie came in second place as an individual in the UW-W golf tournament. Melanie also was named the WIAC Judy Kruckman Scholar Athlete for golf in 2010. She has participated in the Polar Plunge, Kids Night Out, Adopt-A-Lot, and helped with the Madison Gold Show and Hang-Time Camp.
 
Allison Nelson (Naperville, IL/Neuqua Valley), Gymnastics, is majoring in elementary education with a minor in special education and has a cumulative GPA of 3.431. She has been on the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll for three years, the Dean's list for two semesters, was named co-recipient of the WIAC Judy Kruckman Scholar Athlete award for gymnastics in 2011 and was named to the NACGC/W Scholastic All-American team in 2010 and 2011. She is a member of the gymnastic team that won the WIAC conference championships in 2010 and 2011 and was named NCGA All-American in 2008, 2009 and 2011. Allison is also in the school record book for the vault. She has participated in Make a Difference Day, Reading with the Warhawks, Kids Night Out, helped with gymnastic camps and volunteered for various 5K Run/Walks and the UW-W Baseball/Football/Basketball Auction and Raffle.
 
Jake Duros (Lake Geneva/Williams Bay), Men's Soccer, is majoring in biology with a minor in health education/environmental studies and has a 3.40 cumulative GPA. He has been on the Dean's list for four semesters. Jacob was on the WIAC All-Sportsmanship team and was voted by his teammates as the men's soccer team Warhawk Award recipient. He has volunteered at nursing homes and helped with youth soccer camps. Jacob is a member of the National Youth Leadership Council, Tri-Beta and the National Biological Honorary Society.
 
Steve Nashleanas (Brookfield/East), Men's Soccer, has a cumulative GPA of 3.430 and is majoring in finance. He has been on the Dean's list four times and been a member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll three times. He was on the NSCAA All-Region third-team and the WIAC All-Conference team in 2009 and 2010. He participated in three NCAA Tournaments and was the team captain in 2010. Steve is a member of Financial Management Association, Law Society and Sigma Alpha Lambda.
 
Ryan Richgels (Madison/Memorial), Men's Soccer, has a cumulative GPA of 3.902 and is majoring in accounting. He has earned term honors for seven semesters and was a member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll in 2009 and 2010. He was selected to the WIAC All-Conference first team in 2009 and 2010, All-Region first team in 2010, All-Region second team in 2008 and ESPN CoSIDA All-District College Division first team. He was selected by the men's soccer team as Defensive MVP for three consecutive years. Ryan has volunteered at the Bryon Riesch Paralysis Golf Outing and Auction, coached at youth soccer camps in Whitewater, and coached practice for youth teams in the Whitewater area. He is a member of Professional Accounting Organization and Beta Alpha Psi.

Haley Krueger (Beach Park, IL/Waukegan), Women's Softball, has a cumulative GPA of 3.896 and is majoring in biology for secondary education with a minor in environmental studies. She has been on the Dean's list for seven semesters, been on the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll and a NFCA Scholar-Athlete for three years. Haley has been a member of the 2008 and 2009 WIAC championship teams, a member of the 2008 NCAA Division III national runner-up team and was named Marty van Steenderen Sportswoman of the Year for softball in 2010. She has participated in America Reads, Women in Sports Day, Make a Difference Day, Habitat for Humanity and currently volunteers at Janesville Group Home. Amanda is a member of Sigma Alpha Lambda.

Kate McDonnell (Aurora, IL/West Aurora), Women's Softball, is majoring in marketing with a minor in Spanish and has a cumulative GPA of 3.850. She is a NFCA Scholar-Athlete, has been on the Dean's list for seven semesters and the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll for three years. She was Great Lakes All-Region second team in 2010, WIAC All-Conference first team in 2010, a member of the 2008 and 2009 WIAC championship teams, a member of the NCAA Division III runner-up team in 2008, and was named Marty van Steenderen Sportswoman of the Year for softball in 2010. Kate has participated in Make a Difference Day, Girls in Sports Day, Big Kid on Campus with Big Brother, Big Sister and tutored at Whitewater Middle School. She is a member of Sigma Alpha Lambda, Golden Key International Honors Society, Beta Gamma Sigma and Mu Kappa Tau.

Lauren Rankins (Marengo, IL/Marengo), Women's Softball, is majoring in sociology with an emphasis in criminal justice and a minor in forensic science and general business and has a cumulative GPA of 3.628. She has been on the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll for three years, a NFCA Scholar-Athlete for two years and on the Dean's list for five semesters. She has started at third base for four years, been a member of the WIAC championship teams in 2008 and 2009 and a member of the NCAA Division III National Runner-up team in 2008. Lauren has volunteered for Reading with the Warhawks, Kids Night Out, Make a Difference Day and has been a member of SAAC for four years.

Jessica Stang (Minnetonka, MN/Minnetonka), Women's Softball, has a cumulative GPA of 3.680 and is majoring in accounting with a minor in Spanish. She earned Academic All-District first team honors in 2010 and second team honors in 2009. She was named to the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll for three years and a NFCA Scholar-Athlete. She has been on the Dean's list for 7 semesters. She was named to the WIAC All-Conference team in 2008, 2009, and 2010, earned WIAC Pitcher of the Year in 2008 and 2009, and was selected WIAC Pitcher of the Week eight times over the past three years. Stang was selected to the Great Lakes All-Region first team in 2009, second team in 2010, and NFCA All-American first team in 2009. Jessica was a member of the WIAC championship teams in 2008 and 2009, NCAA Division III National Runner-up team in 2008, NCAA Division III All-Regional team in 2008 and NCAA Division III All-Tournament team in 2008. She has participated in Make a Difference Day, Women in Sports Day, Kids Night Out, Reading with the Warhawks, UW-W softball camps, Sigma Alpha Lambda Kid's Sport Day and Relay for Life.

Kaylyn Howley (Sheboygan/Sheboygan South), Women's Swimming, is majoring in psychology with a scientist/practitioner emphasis and has a cumulative GPA of 3.60. She has been on the Dean's list for seven semesters and has been a member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll for three years. She received the UW-Whitewater Outstanding Junior Scholarship in 2010. She is part of the relay teams that are in the UW-W record books for the 200m, 400m, and 800m freestyle relays. Kaylyn has participated in Reading with the Warhawks, SAAC, is a STAR team member, and coached J-Hawks swim team. She is a USA certified swim coach.

Andy Hanney (Grafton/Grafton), Men's Swimming, has a cumulative GPA of 3.452 and is majoring in accounting. He has been on the Dean's list seven semesters, a member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll for two years and received the Exacto Springs scholarship. He was WIAC All-Conference second team in the 100m and 200m backstroke, the UW-W record holder for the 200m backstroke and part of the UW-W record holding team for the 200m and 400m medley relays. He has been a WIAC Swimmer of the Week twice and winner of the 100m and 200m backstrokes at the Stevens Point Invite. Andrew has participated in Make a DIfference Day, Food Drive for Whitewater and volunteered at local high schools as a swimming coach. He is a member of IMA and SAAC.

Abby Martin (Johnsburg, IL/Johnsburg), Women's Tennis, has a cumulative GPA of 3.911 and is majoring in music education. She has been an ITA Scholar-Athlete, on the Dean's list and the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll for four years and was the recipient of The Greenhill Excellence in the Arts Award in 2007. She is a member of the women's tennis teams that have won four WIAC championships and was named Most Dedicated Player on the team in 2007. She has participated in Reading with the Warhawks, Kids Night Out, Women in Sports Day, and is a member of SAAC. Abby is a member of Golden Key International Honors Society, CMENC, MENC, and WMEA.

Jessa Luebke (Tomah/Tomah), Women's Track and Field, is majoring in elementary education with a minor in coaching and has a cumulative GPA of 3.436. She has been a member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll in 2009 and 2010 and on the Dean's list three times. She earned All-American honors in 2011, coming in eighth in the weight throw at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships. She also qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships in 2010 and 2011 in the shot put and weight throw. She holds the UW-W record for weight throw and has been team captain for three years. She has participated in Make a Difference Day.

Caitlin Hogan (New London/New London), Women's Volleyball, has a 3.765 cumulative GPA and is majoring in advertising with a minor in multimedia. She has been on the Dean's list for seven semesters, will graduate Magna Cum Laude in May, a member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll for three years and was named the WIAC Judy Kruckman Volleyball Scholar-Athlete in 2010. She was an AVCA Division III All-American as a first team selection in 2010 and second team selection in 2009, and selected All-Region first team in 2009 and 2010. Hogan was named WIAC Volleyball Player of the Year in 2010, WIAC All-Conference first team selection in 2009 and 2010, and part of the NCAA Division III Runner-up team in 2007. She has participated in Make a Difference Day and Helping Hands. She is a member of the Golden Key International Honors Society, SAAC, and Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society.
