The women's volleyball team defeated Marian University Friday, 3-1 (25-17, 25- 5, 23-25, 25-18), in the first match of the UW-Whitewater Invitational. En route to victory the Warhawks set a school record with 21 service aces. The old record was 19 aces which occurred on September 17, 1993. This also ties for tenth in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference history; the record is 33 in a match. The 'Hawks are now 2-1 and Marian falls to 1-1.

Propelling the Warhawks to the school record was Keri Klotzbuecher (Clintonville/Clintonville) who served six aces in the match, including twelve straight points in the second game.
UW-Whitewater tallied 45 kills in the match led by Caitlin Hogan (New London/New London) with 13. Also aiding in the attack were, Klotzbuecher with 8, Megan Peterson (Burlington/Burlington) with 7, and Sofia Sanchez (Janesville/Craig) with 7. Alyse Karls (Dane/Lodi) assisted in the win over Marian with a total of 27 assists. Alyssa Bauer (Naperville, IL/Central) chipped in 11 digs to add to her team-leading 23 for the season.
This marked the first time this season the Warhawks played at home. UW-W continues competition on Friday night in the invitational in a match at 7:00 pm against Bethel University.
