The UW-Whitewater women's volleyball team defeated Bethel University 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-19) in their second match at the UW-Whitewater Invitational on Friday. The Warhawks improve to 3-1 while Bethel falls to 2-1.

The Warhawks were down 15-9 in the first set until a five point run forced a Bethel timeout. The set stayed close throughout. The Royals and the 'Hawks traded points until it was tied at 23 before UW-W closed it out with a Caitlin Hogan (New London/New London) kill and a Katy Krajnak (Racine/Case) putdown on a Bethel overpass.
Set two saw the Warhawks up 17-12 to force a Bethel timeout. Bethel came back to within one but could never take the lead from UW-W. The Warhawks went on to finish the set with an ace by Sofia Sanchez (Janesville/Craig).
In the final set the 'Hawks were down 7-10 before scoring six straight point to take a lead they never relinquished. The Warhawks scored the last four points of the set on four straight kills.
Leading the way for UW-W was Melissa Zuleger (Little Chute/Little Chute) tallying 10 kills. Defensively, Alyssa Bauer (Naperville, IL/Central) and Alyse Karls (Dane/Lodi) recorded 16 and 14 digs respectively. The 'Hawks were also strong at the net blocking 22 Bethel attack attempts. Katy Krajnak (Racine/Case) had seven blocks while Zuleger chipped in with four.
The Warhawks will play on Saturday at 10 am against Wheaton in the Williams Center volleyball gymnasium.
