The UW-Whitewater women's volleyball team, ranked twelfth according to the American Volleyball Coaches Association, defeated Heidelberg University 3-2 (25-22, 21-25, 25-19, 20-25, 15-13) to remain undefeated in the UW-Whitewater Invitational. The Warhawks improve their record to 12-4 overall as Heidelberg drops to 14-4.

UW-W trailed 4-1 in the first set before tying it up 8-8. A couple small runs from the Warhawks gave them a three point lead that they carried to the end of the set winning 25-22.
In set two, the Warhawks were down by as much as seven 22-15. UW-W tried to get back into the set with a four point run bringing them to within three but the margin was too much late into the set and Heidelberg took set two 25-21.
Whitewater trailed again in set three before tying it up at nine apiece. A big block by
Katy Krajnak (Racine/Case) and
Caitlin Hogan (New London/New London) seemed to give UW-W the momentum they needed. After a six point run the Warhawks were leading 15-10 forcing Heidelberg's first timeout. HU would call another timeout later in the set but nothing could break UW-W's focus as they rolled to a 25-19 victory.
Set three was riddled with small runs from each team until Heidelberg was able to manage a five point lead 20-15. A couple big kills from Warhawk hitters tried to swing the momentum back to their side but it wasn't enough as they lost the set 25-20.
In the final set, the Warhawks were down just one at the side switch 7-8. A back-and-forth battle ensued but Whitewater prevailed after a net violation from Heidelberg gave them the winning point 15-13 and the match.
UW-W was led by Hogan and
Shaela Hayden (Harvard, IL/Harvard) at the net with 12 kills each. Hogan added three assist blocks to her stats.
Sofia Sanchez (Janesville/Craig) also recorded double-digit kills with 11.
Defensively,
Alyssa Bauer (Naperville, IL/Central) led Whitewater with 23 of the teams 100 digs.
Kelli Trautmann (Seymour/Little Chute) added 17,
Annie Berkley (Racine/Washington Park) pitched in 16 more and Sanchez had 12.
The Warhawks continue play in the UW-Whitewater Invitational with a match at 2:00 pm against Elmhurst in the Williams Center volleyball arena.
