The number fifteen ranked UW-Whitewater volleyball team opened up play in the 2009 season with a loss to number twenty UW-Eau Claire at the UW-Stevens Point Triangular on Tuesday by a score of 3-1 (25-22, 25-16, 20-25, 25-19).  The Warhawks have not lost a season opening match dating back to before the 1995 season.

Eau Claire totaled 52 kills in the match to Whitewater's 42.  The Blugolds and Warhawks were tight in all other statistical categories.

Leading the way for UW-W was Keri Klotzbuecher (Clintonville/Clintonville) who tallied ten kills.  Klotzbuecher also dug up 14 kill attempts by the Blugolds.  Aiding Klotzbuecher on the defensive side of the net was Alyssa Bauer (Naperville, IL/Central) who totaled 20 digs in the match.  Alyse Karls (Dane/Lodi) led the way with 31 assists.

The Warhawks will play again on Tuesday against UW-Stevens Point.
