The UW-Whitewater men's soccer team opened up their season with a 1-0 victory over Cardinal Stritch University at Uihlein Soccer Park in Milwaukee on Tuesday. The Warhawks are 1-0-0 and Cardinal Stritch is 0-1-0.

The match was scoreless until the 59th minute when Dan Montanye (Mukwonago/Mukwonago) found the back of the net for the lone goal of the game. The goal was unassisted.
The Warhawks outshot the Wolves 8-7 but UW-W goalkeeper Andrew Krueger (New Berlin/Catholic Memorial) only had to make one save. Trevor Swentik (Delafield/Marquette University HS) and Montanye each got off two shots on goal and Matt Gehn (Oregon/Oregon) put one shot on the net.
UW-W plays again on Saturday, September 5 at 7 pm in Whitewater against Loras. The Warhawks are now a member of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference but do not open up conference play until September 12 when they host UW-Superior at 3 pm.
