A single run in the fourth inning was all the Warhawks needed to defeat Coe College in their second game of the NCAA Division III regional in Bloomington, Illinois on Friday afternoon. Jessica Stang (Minnetonka, MN/Minnetonka) pitched seven innings and sacrificed only two hits while walking one and striking out seven. Stang only allowed one Coe baserunner past second base and is now 20-2 this year.
The lone run by UW-W was scored on a Kate McDonnell (Aurora, IL/West Aurora) RBI double to right center field. The hit scored Liz Yucuis (S. Elgin, IL/St. Charles East), the UW-W catcher.
The Warhawks recorded four hits in the game to Coe's two, and no batter had more than one.
The Warhawks will play at 10:00 am on Saturday in a re-match with UW-Eau Claire. The Blugolds handed UW-W their first loss in the NCAA tournament on Thursday. The tournament uses a double-elimination format. The loser between Whitewater and Eau Claire will be eliminated.
