Warhawks Advance in NCAA Tourney with Win over UW-Eau Claire

The UW-Whitewater men's tennis team defeated UW-Eau Claire 5-0 in the first round of the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III tennis tournament on Friday in St. Peter, Minnesota.  The Warhawks are now 22-8 overall and will play host Gustavus Adolphus on Saturday.  UW-Whitewater NCAA tournament web page

The Warhawks started by winning all three doubles matches against the Blugolds.  Then the number five and six singles players won to wrap-up the contest.

Alex Lowe (Oswego, IL/Oswego) and Kelvin Caiati (Greendale/Greendale), the number one doubles team for UW-W, is ranked eighth in the latest ITA tennis central region rankings and defeated the number one doubles team from Eau Claire after losing to them in a previous matchup this season.

The Warhawks will face Gustavus Adolphus on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.  Gustavus boasts the top ranked singles player in the central region, John Kauss, as well as the number one ranked doubles team of Kauss and Mike Burdakin.  The two teams faced off on March 14th with the victory going to Gustavus by a score of 9-0.  The team that wins the match will advance to the regional final on Sunday at noon.
