UW-Whitewater won the WIAC regular season (dual meet) and WIAC Tournament last fall. This is the first year the Final Four has been played, in an effort to have the best team in May, rather than October, represent the league in the NCAA III championship.
UW-Whitewater, ranked seventeenth in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division III poll, is 23-3 in dual meets this season. The Warhawks will be making their second national championship appearance, having also qualified in 2008. National tournament assignments and matchups will be announced late Monday on the NCAA web site.
UW-W, the number one seed in the WIAC Final Four, defeated fourth seeded UW-Oshkosh 6-0 in one semifinal played earlier Saturday, while second seeded La Crosse topped UW-Eau Claire 5-3 in the other semifinal. UW-EC defeated Oshkosh 8-1 in the third place match Saturday afternoon.
