Five PQ's as Warhawks Win Foster Invite

Five Warhawk athletes had performances worthy of earning provisional qualifying status for the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III outdoor championship as UW-Whitewater won the Rex Foster Invitational in Whitewater Thursday.  The meet was Whitewater's first home outdoor competition since 2003.  Foster Track has undergone extensive renovation.

Team scores were:  UW-Whitewater 412, Concordia (WI) 90, Ripon College 78, Beloit College 64, Carroll University 45, and Wisconsin Lutheran College 16.

UW-Whitewater swept the top three places in six events, and won seven more, to out-distance the field.

The events that went 1-2-3 included:  hammer throw with Shaun Davis (Edgerton/Edgerton) (54.76m), Ryan Howell (New Glarus/New Glarus) (52.87), and Ben Stringer (Assumption, IL/Central A&M) (50.49).  Davis and Howell both met NCAA provisional marks.  Also Travis Morehouse (Cottage Grove/Monona Grove) (1.99m), Luke Buchholz (Whitewater/Whitewater) (1.94) and Kyle Lencho (Whitewater/Whitewater) (1.89) in the high jump; Brandon Kiraly (Deerfield/Deerfield) (4.48m), Dane Dzubinski (Brookfield/Waukesha North) (4.48) and Tom Weigand (West Allis/West Allis Hale) (4.33) in the pole vault; and Peter Schroeder (Ripon/Ripon) (15.62), Brian Gensrick (Mequon/Homestead) (15.71) and Pat Lockington (Two Rivers/Two Rivers) (16.99) in the 110 meter hurdles.  Also Matt Kovnesky (Fort Atkinson/Fort Atkinson) (50.60), Alek Konopacki (Madison/Madison West) (50.70), and Brian Martinezdelacotera (Franklin/Franklin) (50.79) in the 400; and Joe Dixon (Milwaukee/Rufus King) (2:00.28), Devin Ahlers (Slinger/Slinger) (2:01.18) and Kyle O'Rourke (2:01.92) in the 800 meters. 

Other first place finishers were Cory Lockridge (Milwaukee/Rufus King) in the long jump (22-1), Mathias Werve (Kenosha/Tremper) in the 1500 (4:09.23), Marcus Smith (Milwaukee/West Allis Central) in the triple jump (47-10.5), Peter Schroeder (Ripon/Ripon) in the 400 hurdles (55.29), and #R.J. Soderman# in the javelin (167-7).  Davis added more first place points to his hammer throw, winning the discus (49.69).  Davis and Stringer, who went 1-2, both met NCAA III provisional marks in the discus.  Smith's triple jump performance was the fifth UW-W provisional mark of the meet.

UW-W will compete in the Eagle Invitational hosted by Benedictine University in Lisle, Illinois Saturday, April 18.  The meet will begin at 9:00.
