Warhawks at Loras Open

Shaun Davis (Edgerton/Edgerton) led UW-W with a pair of second place finishes at the Loras Open hosted by Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa Saturday.  There were no team scores kept in the meet.  UW-Whitewater is ranked fifth in the latest Division III poll conducted by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Davis earned second place finishes in the discus (160-10) and hammer throw (175-3).  The only person ahead of him in the discus was former Warhawk Dan Hytinen, a former NCAA III discus champion.

Tyler Eddy (Mukwonago/Mukwonago) added another second place finish, in the long jump (20-9.75), where teammate Cory Lockridge (Milwaukee/Rufus King) placed seventh (20-3).  Ben Knapp (Stoughton/Stoughton) took third place in the longest race of the day, the 10,000 meters (33:13.22). 

UW-W also did well in another distance event, the 3,000 steeplechase where three Warhawks were among the top ten.  That threesome included Tyler Stein (Muskego/Muskego) in fourth (10:18.63), Jarrod Schwichtenberg (West Allis/West Allis Hale) in fifth (10:23.75), and eighth place Jordan Truttschel (Kiel/Kiel) (10:44.38).  The Warhawks also had a trio of top ten finishes in the 1500 meters, with Lee Stratman (Middleton/Dodgeville) fourth (4:)4.79), Devin Ehlers ninth (4:06.98), and Jon Fink (Muskego/Wisconsin Lutheran) tenth (4:07.34).  Stratman's time is a team season best performance.

Two Warhawks were among the top ten finishers in the triple jump, led by Mike Schmitt (Manitowoc/Roncalli)'s sixth place (40-11.75) and followed by #R.J. Soderman# in ninth (40-6).

Dane Dzubinski (Brookfield/Waukesha North), tied for eighth in the pole vault (14-5.25); Brian Martinezdelacotera (Franklin/Franklin) crossed the line ninth in the 400 (50.77); and David Schneekloth (Seymour, WI/Seymour) was tenth inthe 5,000 (15:33.91) for other UW-W top ten finishes.

UW-W will compete in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference outdoor championship at UW-Oshkosh Friday-Saturday, May 1-2.
