Ben Stringer (Assumption, IL/Central A&M) and Marcus Smith (Milwaukee/West Allis Central) improved their provisional qualifying performances, and Isiah Gray (Milwaukee/Brown Deer) added his name, for the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III outdoor championship as UW-Whitewater finished second at the Red and White Invitational hosted by North Central College in Naperville, Illinois Wednesday.

Team scores were North Central 267, UW-Whitewater 152.5, Aurora University 77, Wheaton College 73, UW-Parkside 20, Benedictine University 18.5, and Lewis University 5.
Stringer won the discus with a toss of 162-10, narrowly edging teammate Shaun Davis (Edgerton/Edgerton)' throw of 162-9. Smith won the triple jump at 47-11.25, which is also a team season best performance. Smith added second place points for the team in the 110 hurdles (115.85).
Davis also won an event for UW-W, capturing the hammer throw (178-0). Other first place finishes for the Warhawks included Brian Gensrick (Mequon/Homestead) in the 110 hurdles (15.55), Isiah Gray (Milwaukee/Brown Deer) in the 400 meters (48.40), and Cory Lockridge (Milwaukee/Rufus King) in the long jump (22-0.75). Gray's time is also a team season best, and added his name to Whitewater's list of NCAA III provisional qualifiers.
Luke Buchholz (Whitewater/Whitewater) placed second in the high jump (6-2), with teammate Travis Morehouse (Cottage Grove/Monona Grove) reaching the same high but placing third due to number of attempts. Other third place points gathered by UW-W came from Brandon Kiraly (Deerfield/Deerfield) in the pole vault (14-1.25), Devin Ehlers in the 800 meters (1:57.80), and Mike Schmitt (Manitowoc/Roncalli) in the long jump (20-7). Joe Schneider earned third place points in two events, the hammer throw (158-11) and shot put (46-7.5).
Kyler Wiegel turned in a team season best performances in the 100 meters (11.36).
UW-W will compete in the Loras College Invitational in Dubuque, Iowa Saturday. The squad will be without two relay teams, the 4x400 and 4x800, who will be competing at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa Friday and Saturday.
