Two More Provisional Qualifiers

Matt Kovnesky (Fort Atkinson/Fort Atkinson) and Cory Lockridge (Milwaukee/Rufus King) met National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III provisional qualifying standards at the Karl Schlender Invitational in the Kachel Fieldhouse in Whitewater, Wisconsin Friday night.  Luke Buchholz (Whitewater/Whitewater) also improved his provisional mark in the high jump, and a Kachel Fieldhouse record fell.

Kovnesky won the 800 meters in 1:53.4.  Kovnesky joins teammate Aron Kehoe (Monroe/Monroe) as a provisional qualifier in the 800.  Lockridge went 23-6 in the long jump, winning the event with his qualifying mark, also the best performance on the team this season.

Luke Buchholz (Whitewater/Whitewater), already a provisional qualifier, improved his national mark by winning the high jump at 6-8.25. 

Other top performances for UW-W included David Schneekloth (Seymour, WI/Seymour) ran a team season best in the 5000 meters, with a 15:11.43, Kyle Lencho (Whitewater/Whitewater) placed third in the high jump (6-4.25), Shaun Davis (Edgerton/Edgerton) placed second in the weight throw (55-3) with teammate Ben Stringer (Assumption, IL/Central A&M) right behind in third (55-0.225), and Kyler Weigel (Darlington/Darlington) crossed the line third in the 55 meters (6.83).

A Kachel Fieldhouse record was broken by Nate Larkin of UW-Madison in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 7.28 seconds.  The record was previously held by Basil Steele of the University of Dubuque who set it in 2004 with a time of 7.44 seconds.

UW-W will send a contingent of athletes to the NCAA III Indoor Track and Field Championship, hosted by Rose Hulman Institute in Terre Haute, Indiana Marcfh 13-14.  The list of qualifiers will be announced Monday on the NCAA site and at raceberryjam.com
