Gray, Kehoe Advance to National Championship Finals

UW-W, having five members of the men's track team participating in the national championships already have two going to the finals after performances in the opening day of competition Friday.  Isiah Gray (Milwaukee/Brown Deer) advanced to the finals in the 400 meter run, while Aron Kehoe (Monroe/Monroe) advanced in the 800 meter run.  The National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III Indoor Track and Field Championship is being hosted by Rose-Hulman Institute in Terre Haute, Indiana.

The Warhawks were paced Friday evening by freshman Isiah Gray (Milwaukee/Brown Deer) in the 400 prelims, with his time fifth in the prelims, advancing him to the finals on Saturday at 3:05 p.m. (EST).  Gray finished the 400 with a time of 49.15, just 0.05 seconds off his season best time of 49.10.  Advancing to the finals already confirms that Gray All-America honors, which go to the top eight finishers in each event.

In the men's 800 meter run, sophomore Aron Kehoe (Monroe/Monroe) qualified for the finals with a time of 1:54.71, the seventh qualifying time in the prelims - also assuring him of repeating All-America honors he earned as a member of the distance medley relay in last year's national indoor meet.  In the same event Matt Kovnesky (Fort Atkinson/Fort Atkinson) finished with a time of 1:57.41 and did not qualify for the finals.  The 800 meter run finals will be held on Saturday at 3:45 p.m. (EST).

Another Warhawk freshman, Cory Lockridge (Milwaukee/Rufus King) competed in the long jump and jumped 22-7.75 (6.90m).  The distance was not enough to advance Lockridge to the finals.

The last Warhawk who qualified for the NCAA III indoor championship was Luke Buchholz (Whitewater/Whitewater), who will compete in the high jump prelims beginning 3:30 p.m. (EST) Saturday.
