Warhawks Top Falcons, Sew Up #2 Seed

UW-Whitewater defeated UW-River Falls 68-56 Saturday afternoon at the Karges Center in River Falls, Wisconsin.  With the win the Warhawks, 22-3 overall and 13-3 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, wrapped up the number two seed in the conference tourney.  UW-W, as the number two seed, earns a first round bye and will host a tournament semifinal game Thursday at Kachel Gym in Williams Center.  The game will begin at 7:00.

UW-W built a lead in the first half, as large as 41-19, and took a 41-21 lead into the intermission.  Whitewater's first half lead was keyed by 7-13 shooting (54%) shooting from beyond the arc.

The Falcons reduced the margin to twelve, 48-36 at 12:20, and the final score.  The Warhawks bumped the lead to 22, 58-36 at 7:29, in between the twelve point leads.

River Falls was credited with eleven steals to three for the Warhawks, but Whitewater compensated with a 45-30 rebounding margin, including 16 offensive boards.

UW-W senior center Tiffany Morton (Beloit/Memorial) notched her fourteenth double-double of the season, and school record twenty-eighth in her career, with 20 points and 19 rebounds.  Morton also led UW-W with six assists.  Kelsey Hendrickson (Monroe/Monroe) added 14 points, hitting 4-8 from three-point range.   UW-RF was led by Taylor House's 15 points, the only Falcon in double figures.  House also led both teams with four blocked shots, and Tiffany Gregorich dished out a game high seven assists.

UW-River Falls finishes the regular season 14-11 overall and 7-9 in the WIAC.
