Whitewater Wins Fifth Straight

UW-Whitewater, ranked among the top ten in both national Division III polls, ran its win streak to five with an 83-59 win over UW-Oshkosh Wednesday at Kachel Gym in Williams Center in Whitewater, Wisconsin.

Whitewater and Oshkosh were tied 16-16 at 9:32, but UW-W out-scored the Titans 24-8 over the remainder of the first half to lead 40-24 at intermission.  Oshkosh got as close as twelve, 47-35 on a jumper by Kelsey Myklebust with 14:12 left.  From that point on the Warhawks built on their lead, with the final score the largest margin of the game.

Whitewater's dialed long distance and the calls were answered, as UW-W hit a season high eleven three-pointers, hitting 11-21 (52%).  Mary Donohoo (Wauwatosa/West), making her first start of the season on "senior night" did not miss a shot, hitting 4-4 from the floor, including 3-3 from beyond the arc. 

Heidi Sonntag (Milwaukee/Wisconsin Lutheran) led UW-W with 13 points, including 3-5 from three-point range.  She was joined in double figures by Donohoo's 11, Dana Thompson (Belleville/Belleville)'s 11, and Kelsey Hendrickson (Monroe/Monroe)'s 10.  Thompson also grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.

Oshkosh was led by Michelle Boeder's 16 points, htting 6-7 from the free throw line.  Erin Baganz chipped in with 12 points, and she led both teams with four assists and three steals.

UW-Whitewater is 21-3 overall and 12-3 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.  Oshkosh is 6-18, 1-14 in league play.

UW-W will close the regular season Saturday at UW-River Falls.  The WIAC Tournament will begin Tuesday, with the top two teams in the league earning a first round bye.  The tourney will continue Thursday with the 1-2 seeds hosting first round winners, with the championship game at the highest remaining seed Saturday, February 28.
