UW-Whitewater, moved in to third place in the D3hoops.com national poll after wins over Platteville and Stevens Point last week, was upset by UW-Oshkosh 65-64 Wednesday night at Kolf Fieldhouse in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

Oshkosh led by ten in the first half, but UW-W came back to hold a 32-31 halftime advantage. The game was tied 56-56 with 5:14 remaining. Whitewater tied the game at 58-58 on two free throws by Dustin Mitchell (Lac Du Flambeau/Lakeland) with 3:23 left, but Matt Miller hit a three to put the Titans up 61-58 at 2:56. Chris Vines (Milwaukee/Washington) made a layup at 2:19 to pull UW-W back within one, 61-60. Dane Seckar-Anderson's layup with 1:54 left made it 63-60 Oshkosh. Whitewater took the lead back with layups from Kori Vernon (Madison/Memorial) (1:35) and Myles McKay (Menomonee Falls/Menomonee Falls) (0:29), 64-63 UW-W. The winning basket, with eight seconds left, came from D.J. Marsh on a layup with eight seconds left.
Oshkosh used eight three's, compared to three for UW-W, in their win, and that helped offset Whitewater's 37-22 rebounding margin.
UW-W was led in scoring by Matt Goodwin (Milwaukee/King), with 15, and Kori Vernon (Madison/Memorial), with 14, but three more Warhawks added to the balanced attack. Mitchell, McKay, and Vines chipped in with 12, 11 and 10 point respectively. Vines and McKay led the team with six rebounds each, and McKay led UW-W with three assists with Vines contributing a game-high three steals. Junior forward D.J. Marsh led both teams with 22 points, including 6-6 from the line. Miller added 15 and Seckar-Anderson had 10. Marsh topped both teams with eight rebounds and five assists.
UW-W is 20-4 overall, 12-4 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Warhawks received some help from Eau Claire, with the Blugolds beating UW-Platteville 65-60 to keep the Pioneers in a tie for second place in the league with a 12-4 mark. Oshkosh 13-10 overall and 7-7 in the WIAC. Whitewater defeated UW-Oshkosh in the first meeting this season, 75-66 December 17 in Williams Center.
Whitewater will play at UW-River Falls Saturday in the WIAC regular season finale. The league tournament will begin play Tuesday, with the 1-2 seeds receiving a bye. The top two seeds will host the winners of Tuesday's games Thursday, with the highest remaining seed hosting the championship game Saturday.
