The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's track and field team took part in day one action of the Grand Valley State University Big Meet Friday, February 13 in Allendale, Michigan. Many Division I and II teams also are competing at the meet.
Day 1 results
Although no team scores were kept, freshman Isiah Gray (Milwaukee/Brown Deer) led the Warhawks with his third place finish in the 400 meter dash with a time of 49.13. His time was just three tenths of a second off of his record time of 49.10 which he ran a week ago today. Both of these times are National Collegiate Athletic Association provisional qualifying times. Senior Matt Kovnesky (Fort Atkinson/Fort Atkinson) also had a NCAA provisional qualifying time of 1:54.19 in the 800 meter run. Sophomore Aron Kehoe (Monroe/Monroe) took eighth in the 800 meter run as part of the heptathlon with a time of 1:57.83. Warhawk freshmen Cory Lockridge (Milwaukee/Rufus King) and Ryan Jefferson (Milwaukee/Germantown) placed fifth and eighth in the long jump with distances of 6.62 meters and 6.36 meters respectively.
The Warhawks will take part in day two action at the GVSU Big Meet tomorrow February 14. The Warhawk men will also be competing at the UW-Platteville Invitational Saturday, February 14.
