UW-Whitewater, ranked fourth in both national Division III polls, led wire to wire in a 70-61 win at UW-La Crosse in Mitchell Hall Wednesday night. Whitewater senior center Tiffany Morton (Beloit/Memorial) scored 18 points to become the eighth player in school history to pass the 1,000 point mark.

UW-W led 36-25 at halftime, and used an 11-2 start of the second half to lead by twenty, 49-29 at 13:37.
La Crosse whittled away at the deficit, eventually cutting it to 56-48 with 3:31 left on a layup by Mackenzie Hunter. The Eagles tightened it a bit more, pulling within 63-57 with 0:55 remaining, again courtesy of Hunter, this time with two free throws. Whitewater's last seven points came at the free throw line as UW-L tried to stop the clock and gain possessions.
Whitewater's defense blocked seven shots, three by Morton. The Warhawks also made six three's (6-18) while La Crosse made one (1-6).
UW-L's Hunter led all scorers with 30 points, hitting 11-22 shots and 8-9 free throws. She was joined in double figures by Lindsay Wahl, who had 15. Hunter also led the Eagles with eight rebounds and three steals.
Morton notched her eighth double-double of the season, adding a game high 12 rebounds to her 18 points. Rachel Woolever (Colfax/Colfax) hit 4-7 three-pointers and added 12 points. Heidi Sonntag (Milwaukee/Wisconsin Lutheran) contributed 14 points and Meghan Schmidt (Port Washington/Port Washington) 10.
Morton, in her third year after transferring from UW-Milwaukee, has 1,006 career points. Jody Landish accumulated a school record 1,377 points 1991-95.
UW-Whitewater, 13-1 overall and 4-1 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, has won nine in a row. UW-L is 9-4 overall and 1-3 in league play.
Whitewater will host UW-Eau Claire Saturday, January 10 at 5:00 in the Kachel Gym of Williams Center.
