The Warhawks' ranked wrestlers all came through. Bautista, number one in Division III, raised his record to 21-1. Voeck, third in the national rankings, leads the team in wins with a 24-1 record, and Nagel, sixth-ranked, upped his mark to 14-3.
Other UW-W wrestlers continue to make a bid for national consideration. Oldenburg is now 15-1 and Evans 17-3. Evans is one half of Whitewater's heavyweight combo which includes Jon Schmidt (Menomonee Falls/Hartford), the fourth ranked 285-pounder in the Division III rankings. Pietrzyk continued an amazing string with his another pin, his team-leading fourteenth in a 16-4 record. Pietrzyk was named UW-W and WIAC Wrestler of the Week for the week ending January 11 for pinning all five opponents as UW-W won the Budd Whitehill Duals at Lycoming College in Williamsport, Pennsylvania last weekend.
The second half of Whitewater's lineup, from 165 up, matched up with the best records for the Titans. Dederich came in to the match 18-6, Engelland 15-6, Felts 18-8, Kratz 14-4 and Laplante 11-4, and those records included losses to scholarship teams at the highly regarded Midlands Tournament.
The Warhawks have a ten day break before hosting the Border Brawl Saturday, January 24. That series of dual meets, which will involve UW-W, UW-Stevens Point and Concordia University from Wisconsin, and Augustana College, the University of Chicago and Elmhurst College from Illinois, will be held in the Williams Center. Matches are scheduled for 11:30, 1:15 and 3:00.
