UW-Whitewater defeated Lakeland College 5-0 Saturday at Fiskum Field in Whitewater, Wisconsin. The game was the first contest played in UW-W's new soccer facility, part of the Kachel Multi-Sport Complex. The soccer field was dedicated in honor of former coach Robert W. Fiskum in pregame ceremonies. The UW-Whitewater team wore pink jerseys in recognition of arthritis awareness at Fiskum's request.
Warkhawk fans can place bids on jerseys used during the Lakeland game up until Friday, September 19. After that date, all bidding will close. Minimum bids are $50 and requests can be made to petersonET20@uww.edu. All proceeds will go to the Arthritis Foundation. Whitewater opened the scoring at 11:08 with Mary Donohoo (Wauwatosa/West) netting in a rebound. Donohoo tallied again at 18:35, assisted by Sara Brown (Lake Zurich, IL/Lake Zurich). And, Donohoo made it a hat trick at 27:00, with an assist from Megan Schlecht (Mukwonago/Mukwonago). UW-W ended the first half scoring at 42:26, with Holly U'ren scoring unassisted.
The only scoring in the second half came at 89:00 off a corner kick, Alyssa Jedlicka (Delavan/Delavan-Darien) putting the ball in play where Whitney Clapper (Cedarburg/Cedarburg) headed the ball into the net.
UW-W had 21 shots to six for Lakeland. Warhawk goalkeeper Mary Scanlin (Waunakee/Waunakee) had to make just two saves.
Lakeland is 2-2-1 and UW-Whitewater is 2-1.
The Warhawks will take the field September 11 in Spokane, Washington against Whitworth University at 1:30. The next home will be September 20 against UW-Stevens Point at 2:00 at Fiskum Field.
