Whitewater defeats Augustana College 3-1

Eleventh ranked UW-Whitewater women's volleyball defeated Augustana College 3-1 in their second win of the Whitewater Invitational tonight. The games played out 13-25, 25-15, 25-23, 25-12.

Augustana jumped out early in the first game and ended up taking the game 13-25, but Whitewater bounced back to take the second game big 25-15. Both teams had momentum in the third and made scoring runs but Whitewater prevailed to take the game 25-23. With the energy from the second and third set, the Warhawks rolled through game four to win 25-12.

The 'Hawk hitters were led by freshman Keri Klotzbuecher (Clintonville/Clintonville) and junior Kelly Sorenson with 12 and 11 kills respectively. Sophomore Caitlin Hogan (New London/New London) and senior Liz Benzschawel (Madison/Edgewood) added seven more kills a piece. Sorenson and freshman Christina DeGroot (Kewaskum/Kewaskum) led defensively with double digit digs, 15 and 11 respectively. Junior Megan Starrett (Lancaster/Lancaster) came up big at the net with two solo blocks and four assisted giving her half of the team's total blocks.

The win increases Whitewater's overall record to 11-5 and Augustana drops to 10-4.

The Whitewater invitational will continue through tomorrow with Whitewater playing at 10 am and 2 pm in the Williams Center.
