Nationally Ranked Teams Collide in Williams Center

Nationally ranked teams met in the Williams Center volleyball arena Wednesday evening, and the result echoed the American Volleyball Coaches Association Division III poll.  UW-Oshkosh, ranked ninth, edged UW-Whitewater, ranked eleventh, 3-2.  The games scores were 22-25, 25-22, 25-17, 22-25, 15-13.

The first two games were a tossup, with neither team managing a commanding margin and the result hanging in the balance.  Oshkosh built a 17-7 lead in game three and cruised in to a 2-1 lead in games.  Whitewater came back, in another see-saw affair, to even the match with a win in game four.  With game tied 9-9 Oshkosh went ahead and never relinquished the lead for the win.

Oshkosh hit .336 and Whitewater .269.  Oshkosh had eight hitting errors, Whitewater twenty, and UW-O had thirteen total blocks and UW-W three.

The Titans were led by junior Megan Fischer's 16 kills and .421 hitting percentage.  Sophomore Christina Cahoon had 17 digs, and junior Katelyn Vara dished out 40 assists.  Junior Jacque Ray had seven block assists.  Freshman Keri Klotzbuecher (Clintonville/Clintonville) topped the Warhawks with 14 killls and sophomore Caitlin Hogan (New London/New London) added ten.  Alyssa Bauer (Naperville, IL/Central), a freshman, led both teams with 22 digs.

UW-Whitewater is 9-5 overall and 2-1 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and UW-Oshkosh is 15-0 and 3-0.

The next game for the Warhawks will be Friday and Saturday September 26-27, 2008 in the UW-Whtiewater invitational at the WIlliams Center in Whitewater, Wisconsin.
